The 2009 LA Auto Show kicks off next week, but BMW stripped the covers off the 2011 5-Series. It’s more elegant and classier than its predecessors, but don’t think it’s lost its enthusiast style driving dynamics. The 2011 BMW 5-Series lineup consists of one 8-cylinder and three 6-cylinder gasoline engines, as well as two 6-cylinder diesels. A 4-cylinder turbodiesel with an aluminum crankcase and common-rail direct injection will also be made available for the European market.

The 2011 BMW 550i will carry a TwinPower Turbo V8 with High Precision Injection making 407-hp. The BMW 535i will carry a straight 6-cylinder with BMW TwinPower Turbo High Precision Injection and VALVETRONIC helping it produce 306-hp. The standard straight 6-cylinder BMW 528i will make 258-hp while the 523i will make 204-hp. As for the diesel lineup, it begins with the 6-cylinder diesel BMW 530d which delivers 245-hp, while the 525d will make 240-hp. The 4-cylinder turbodiesel engine in the 520d, fitted with standard Auto Start Stop, makes a total of 184-hp while averaging an estimated fuel-economy of 47 mpg.

Sales of the 2011 BMW 5-Series should begin in the later part of 2010 with pricing and availability yet to be announced. Check out more images after the jump as well as videos of the beauty in action. (via egmCarTech
