Audemars Piguet Openworked Extra-Thin Royal Oak 40th Anniversary

Hodinkee gives us a pre-SIHH look at a new timepiece from the folks at Audemars Piguet as they look forward to celebrating 40 years since the very first Royal Oak was released back in 1972. The Openworked Extra-Thin Royal Oak looks to celebrate this momentous occasion and will be available in very limited quantities. It features a 39mm case, just like the original, and an automatic caliber 5122 that’s the same 3.05mm thickness. This time, the case is finished in platinum and is water resistant to 50 meters and features glare proof sapphire crystals front and back. The openworked dial boasts a resolutely contemporary anthracite finish, with the oscillating weight made in 22-carat gold which bears the raised inscription “AP Royal Oak 1972-2012”.

The Openworked Extra-Thin Royal Oak marks 40 years of excellence and fittingly so, it will be limited to 40 pieces. More information over at Hodinkee.
