Restoration Hardware’s Gramophone docks for the iPhone and iPad take Thomas Edison’s phonograph invention from the late 1800s and blend it with modern day elegance. The iconic speaker horn from those early machines amplified sound with the power of pure physics, essentially taking the sounds from a small source and stretching it. Simply set your iPhone or iPad in the solid wood dock, and the metal horn will boost its volume by three to four times, with zero need for electricity. Though this isn’t the first horn speaker we’ve seen on the market, it’s definitely the sleekest and with two subtle color options in the mix as well, we think it’s one that will be a great addition to any upcoming remodeling plans.

Tonight, Raleigh Studios in Los Angeles played host to the unveiling of Jaguar’s F-TYPE R Coupé. The most dynamically capable, performance-focused, production Jaguar ever got plenty of face time with media, celebrities and customers at the exclusive reveal event but the social media chatter from the evening has been focused primarily on the F-TYPE’s dynamic entrance. Attendees saw the F-TYPE R Coupé accelerating towards them before it passed under their grandstand into a hidden tunnel at full throttle. When you’ve got 550 horsepower coming from a supercharged V8 that delivers a 0-60 mph time of just 4.0 seconds, how else do you even think to arrive?

Filson has teamed up with Detroit-based Shinola for the Bixby bicycle. It’s the duo’s interpretation of a 3-speed bicycle for urbanists and commuters alike. This is a purely American-made product with the purpose-built lightweight steel frames and forks being hand-crafted in Wisconsin and full assembly taking place in Detroit.
Painted Filson Green, the Bixby features a double-butted TrueTemper frame with a custom Shinola fork, a Shimano Nexus 3-speed internally-geared hub, and disc brakes, for shifting and braking performance in any weather condition. The stylish bamboo fenders and the special Portland Design Works rear rack with bamboo deck, feature a custom laser-etched Filson logo. The aluminum front rack is built to Shinola’s specs. Filson worked with Shinola on developing custom Tin Cloth bags for the front and rear racks. The front bag easily converts to a handy carry-all for shopping. The rear bags are a clever re-design of classic touring panniers, with a slot for a lap-top computer and quick and easy snaps to attach to the rack.
Introducing our Holiday Gift Guide for 2013. Of all the work that we put in year ’round, I can’t think of a piece we enjoy more. These are things we’d buy for ourselves or for others if we had an infinite bankroll. We also tried to avoid the obvious recommendations like Apple products or the latest console as, well, you know. The lineup ranges from menswear and leather accessories to footwear and gadgets.
