On October 23rd 2012, in an abandoned building in downtown New York over a thousand people gathered to celebrate the most interesting and exciting design collaboration so far. I was one of them and got to witness the launch of the Maison Martin Margiela for H&M collection and have to say the detail put into the presentation was nothing short of exceptional. The unique event was held across many floors of 5 Beekman Street, a historical building in the city’s financial district. Guests were able to discover the collection in dance performances by noted choreographer Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker and through specially commissioned art installations, before DJ’s kept the party going into the early hours. Celebrities at the event included Kanye West, Alan Cumming, Helena Christensen, Margareta van den Bosch, Julianne Moore, Sarah Jessica Parker, Selma Blair, Doutzen Kroes and many others.
The Maison Martin Margiela with H&M collection will be available in selected stores and online on November 15th.

Nigel Cabourn and Eddie Bauer have teamed up once again, this time bringing us more inspiration from Eddie Bauer’s historical archives. The American brand has an immense warehouse of designs and Mr. Cabourn was able to swift through to find some amazing fabrics and classic designs that we’re really glad to see come to fruition. Beyond the archives, the collection is also inspired by vintage hunting and fishing styles, something that’s quite prevalent throughout the offerings. Quilted coats, waxed cotton vests with fur lined detachable hoods, and down filled parkas are all designed and constructed with the uncompromising quality that has become synonymous with the Nigel Cabourn brand (consider that the down filled parkas are stuffed by hand and require more than five hours of production work to complete each garment). Winter, here we come. The pieces are available now at Roden Gray. More shots below.

Earlier today, Justin Timberlake tweeted a link to this teaser of the New MySpace to his 13+ million followers. The site, now been acquired by Specific Media for 15 months and partially owned by JT himself, gets a complete makeover and the aesthetics and user flow seem to take inspiration from two other social networks – Facebook and Tumblr. Users will be able to login via Facebook or Twitter with the option to bring photos or other information with them so you don’t need to build from unless you want to. Status updates look similar to the mobile app Path, with photos largely displayed and user comments showing up underneath. There’s also a music component which allows you to browse albums, find popular songs and artists and more. Want access? Get in line at new.myspace.com.
