Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal and Craig Hatkoff founded the Tribeca Film Festival in 2002 following the attacks on the World Trade Center to spur the economic and cultural revitalization of lower Manhattan through an annual celebration of film, music and culture. The Festival’s mission focuses on assisting filmmakers to reach the broadest possible audience, enabling the international film community and general public to experience the power of cinema and promoting New York City as a major filmmaking center.

The 2009 Tribeca Film Festival has Woody Allen and Larry David as the face of the spring festival with some films that are definitely worth watching. Which ones, you ask? Well, for starters, Woody Allen’s Whatever Works starring Larry David is the opening act and it should be a good one. The Eclipse, from playwright turned director Conor McPherson is said to be worth the trip as well as In the Loop, a sharply hilarious political satire costarring James Gandolfini. We’re also hearing that Outrage, a Kirby Dick documentary is one of the festival’s shining stars.
