Stone Island has opened a new location for their London flagship store, moving to 79 Brewer Street, at the crossroads of Soho, Piccadilly Circus and Regent Street. Here’s an exclusive full look at wristwatch magazine HODINKEE‘s online shop that’s set to launch tomorrow. The online publication has always had an eye for amazing content and Ben & company’s taste for fine product in the space is unparalleled as well. With this being their first foray into retail, they’ve really got it right — delivering hand-made luxury timepiece accessories through a clean, easy-to-navigate portal. The HODINKEE shop includes over fifteen different styles of hand-made leather and suede accessories including straps, single watch travel pouches, and six watch travel rolls. The time dedicated to each item is extensive as a single artisan in the Tuscany region of Italy crafts them hand individually, making each strap, roll, and pouch completely unique.
HODINKEE straps are available in smooth leather, textured leather, and suede, and in a variety of colors. Included in the HODINKEE strap collection is the first suede camouflage strap ($165), as well as a suede camouflage travel pouch ($55). Nudie Jeans has unveiled their limited edition ‘Woad/Guado’ collection, a 100% organic 6-piece line dyed from the ancient ‘Woad’ plant and available exclusively at Nudie Jeans House in LA as well as Atrium NYC. The dying of each piece is extremely involved and requires a lot of attention to detail. The Italian-made collection comprises of a Grim Tim jean style, High Khaki, Chambray shirt, Jacket, long-sleeved Henley and short-sleeved tee-shirt, all in the signature blue shade.
Production’s extremely limited with only 700 pieces available worldwide. Each garment is uniquely customized with a ‘Woad/Guado’ stamp and individually numbered from 1-700. The ‘Woad/Guado’ line is available this Friday through Nudie Jeans House and Atrium NYC. International boutiques that will carry the goods include 14 Ounce Berlin, Tinue de Nimes Amsterdam, Liberty London and A-Place in Stockholm.
Now through Saturday, Audemars Piguet will be running an exhibition marking the 40th anniversary of their historic Royal Oak. The Park Avenue armory houses 100 timepieces, many of which have never been unveiled to the public. Expert some amazing modern art to be showcased at the exhibit as well. Dan Holdsworth’s photopraphy of the Vallée de Joux, where Audemars Piguet is based will be on display, alongside artist Davide Quayola’s installations experimenting with photography, geometry, sculpture and audiovisuals; and Sebastian Leon Agneessens’s multi-channel sound installation. Hodinkee shot a pretty solid video of the exhibition pre-launch so there’s a lot to check out in terms of how the space transformed into what you will see if you get a chance to stop in.
IWC has made a one-of-one timepiece to honor Muhammad Ali at this month’s annual Celebrity Fight Night event. The event was founded in 1994 by Jimmy Walker as a means to raise money for local Arizone charities. This magnificent watch comes is white gold and features a black face with red Super-LumiNova, and a black alligator leather strap in red that’s meant to represent the hue of traditional boxing gloves. There’s a special inscription that reads “Edition Muhammad Ali, ONE OUT OF ONE.” on the case back alongside Ali’s signature. The ‘Muhammad Ali’ Big Pilot’s Watch will be auctioned off at the event on March 24th with all proceeds going to charity.
Oh, that’s nice. You’re looking at a new wide angle lens from Carl Zeiss — the Distagon T* 2,8/15. The German lens maker’s latest creation will be available with for Canon EF and Nikon F mounts. The lens can focus from just 25cm (10″) and offers a 110 deg and is said to be extremely quick. Other Distagon fixed focal lengths include 18mm, 21mm, 25mm, 28mm, and 35mm. Expect the 15mm model to entice photogs into architectural and landscape photography. It features 15 optical elements, including two aspheric elements and glass with abnormal partial dispersion to control distortion and chromatic aberration. It features an integrated lens hood and accepts 95mm threaded filters.
The price is marked at $2,948 with a release date set for May 2012.
