We’re really excited to be able to present to you all some highlight pieces from Tovar, a brand that we came for the first time at this week’s PROJECT Show in Las Vegas. The Los Angeles-based label is launching in Spring 2012 and their product is really exceptional. There’s balanced mix of simplicity, functionality and wearability. The shirting fabrics are really soft and lightweight so they’re perfect for the warmer months while the outerwear pieces are so versatile in both form and color that they have no barrier when it comes to season.

Selectism turns us to this Denham’s Longshore Pea Coat, which the label’s made available in three different fabrics. Apart from the Japanese denim shell you see above, the Pea Coat’s available in black painted canvas and (Fox Brothers & Co) Melton wool as well. “The coat’s overall design draws influence from vintage naval outerwear, yet deviates from the box-fit of archetypal works attire, parading a number of modernist revisions and a streamlined silhouette.” There’s a fresh blend of American heritage and Japan’s desire for detail and functionality.

On August 17th, 2011, Nazish Noorani, a 27-year-old mother of two was shot and killed in her hometown of Boonton, NJ while walking with her husband and three-year old son after a dinner in observance of the Holy Month of Ramadan. After days of investigation, law enforcement officials have charged her husband with the killing of this young woman, with the help of an accomplice. To see something so tragic happen at anytime to anyone is disheartening but the several factors playing into this particular event really make me wonder why people do the things they do. But I’ll never lose hope in society or man.
