Marilyn Reinvented by Bert Stern

Milk Gallery has opened the door’s to Bert Stern’s latest work, this time featuring one-of-a-kind renditions of Marilyn Monroe. The artist has been featured at Milk Gallery in the past as he shared his iconic collection known as “Picturing Marilyn” the last time around. For that exhibition, he pulled most intimate, never before seen archives. This time via “Marilyn Reinvented”, he quite literally reinvents iconic portraits of the beauty.

Marilyn Reinvented by Bert Stern can be viewed at Milk Gallery now through November 6th.

3x1 x Ben Watts Skateboards Limited Edition for Charity

3×1′s Scott Morrison has teamed up with famed photographer Ben Watts to deliver this limited edition series of skateboards for charity. Lovely ladies Jessica Hart (pictured), Lake Bell, Elsa Hosk, Behati Prinsloo and Chanel Iman were shot in 3×1 jeans and little else for five board designs including 3×1’s logo along with Ben’s signature diamond motif and Hipstamatic lens borders. There are only 60 sets in total with all profits going to the charity of the models’ choice. Pre-order all five for $400 or individual decks at $100 each through 3×1 now.

Norse Projects Spring/Summer 2012 Collection Illustrations

Danish label Norse Projects delivers again with their Spring ’12 collection, giving us an even more complete lineup. Among the pieces is the Anton shirt, Elka colab series and a five-panel hat that’s already gotten some attention since being originally unveiled. There are close to 100 new pieces with no rock left unturned. Look for premium jersey sweaters and hoodies alongside Italian suede jackets and a ton more in between. S/S ’12 also sees Norse team up with a number of designers and illustrators for the latest installment of their t-shirt series as well as updating old favourites with novel fabrics, such as the Cornprint patterned cotton that adorns both the Five Panel cap and Gunnar shirt.

Sol LeWitt Installation at Mondrian SoHo

Starting today, the wall of the Mondrian SoHo in New York features a permanent outdoor installation of photographs by Sol LeWitt, entitled: SOL LEWITT: On the Walls of the Lower East Side. The installation consists of 120 photographs of New York’s Lower East Side shot by LeWitt in 1979. The grid is grouped in threes that have been printed on vinyl and installed on a wall measuring 20-feet high by 60-feet wide. The Sol LeWitt installation is by the Lafayette entrance to the hotel and is a completely new venture for the Morgans Hotel Group as they launch a new initiative to further enhance the guest experience through their relationship with art.

Jose Parla Solo Exhibition at OHWOW in Los Angeles

Brooklyn-based artist José Parlá will be showcasing a solo exhibition at OHWOW in Los Angeles beginning next month. There, the artist will feature his first major sculptural installation. His work’s highly personal, layering text – poetry, childhood memories and graffiti – and found materials to recreate/interpret the history and beauty of decaying city walls from his travels. He was features on NOWNESS a short while back and you can peep the video below.

The exhibition will run from September 9th to October 22nd.

BMW has announced the launch of a new tour which gives viewers the opportunity to see all 17 automobiles designed as part of the BMW Art Car Series. Seventeen of the world’s most famous artists worked to create this collection including Jeff Koons, Andy Warhol, Jenny Holzer, Frank Stella, and more. For the first time, an extensive virtual overview of the origin, history and development of the collection is available on the Internet.

Andy Spade, co-founder of design studio Partners & Spade and husband of accessories designer Kate Spade, invited filmmaker Alison Cherick & NOWNESS to his Southampton family residence for a full-on look of all his collective goods. He’s got some interesting finds which range from a rare Tony Alva skateboard to an original Rene Ricard to faux Picassos to model airplanes.
