Shepard Fairey at Art Basel Miami 2009 [Video]

Shepard Fairey at Art Basel Miami 2009 [Video]

Directed by Crystal Moselle, T Magazine sits down with famed artist Shepard Fairey at Art Basel 2009 in Miami. Fairey had several pieces on display at the fair (including two on canvas) and shows what started his passion 20 years ago. In the eight-foot mural that he installed in a vacant lot on 27th Street and North Miami Avenue (under the auspices of the Country Club, the Miami Art Museum and the Fountainhead program), Fairey displays all the art that’s gotten him noticed.

Hype Means Nothing

Hype Means Nothing

Hype Means Nothing currently offers a unique lineup of photo prints, which are featured on t-shirts and laptop cases, the most notable of the stars being the late, great Michael Jackson. Tokyo Dandy tells us Parisian retailer Colette began stocking HMN not too long ago, giving a much deserved push to the label. Some of these shots are just phenomenal and although we don’t endorse the wearing of entertainment figures on your body, some of these are actually cool.

Our favorites, you ask? Well, our top five dead or alive happen to be (in no particular order) Jay-Z, Michael Jackson, Notorious B.I.G., David Beckham, and Marilyn Monroe. Which shots do you like most?

Introducing: Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction [Philadelphia]

Introducing: Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction [Philadelphia]

Holy mother of cheesesteaks, Philadelphia’s got a shop we’d usually only find in our favorite Manhattan neighborhoods. A Continuous Lean turns us to Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction, the brainchild of Steve Grasse, the entrepreneur behind Gyro Mart and Root liquor. “Whether you’re searching for the newest Billykirk piece, new scents from CB I Hate Perfume or tobacco for your prized briar pipe, this shop has you covered. Nestled in Old City, this perfectly curated store brings a refreshing mix previously one might have needed to take the trip up to SoHo for. Art in the Age also has monthly art shows curated by another Philly staple, Space 1026.” Judging from the description, this may well be the best thing to hit Philly since Geno’s… or Pat’s? If you happen to be around 3rd and Arch, be sure to stop by and see what’s on display or on the shelves.
