Tonight, Raleigh Studios in Los Angeles played host to the unveiling of Jaguar’s F-TYPE R Coupé. The most dynamically capable, performance-focused, production Jaguar ever got plenty of face time with media, celebrities and customers at the exclusive reveal event but the social media chatter from the evening has been focused primarily on the F-TYPE’s dynamic entrance. Attendees saw the F-TYPE R Coupé accelerating towards them before it passed under their grandstand into a hidden tunnel at full throttle. When you’ve got 550 horsepower coming from a supercharged V8 that delivers a 0-60 mph time of just 4.0 seconds, how else do you even think to arrive?
News out of Crewe is that three accomplished British racers will be helping Bentley return to its glory days in competitive motorsport. Guy Smith, Steven Kane and Andy Meyrick are set to drive the Continental GT3 during the Gulf 12 Hours at the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi next month. The trio will pilot the Continental GT3 in two six-hour races in Bentley’s first track-action since winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2003. The Continental GT3′s first race appearance will be an exciting one and final preparations are now under way following the completion of initial development work with an endurance test. Car and drivers all performed strongly and, reflecting the nature of the Continental GT road car on which it is based, the car continues its testing form of being both fast and extremely reliable.
The Gulf 12 Hours will take place at the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi on December 13th.
BMW has officially unveiled the BMW i8, slightly ahead of its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show that kicked off today. The hybrid sportscar is a two + two coupe with doors that go up and futuristic design cues that will be sure to turn heads. Power comes from a 1.5-liter, turbocharged, three-cylinder engine that cranks out 231 horses and 236 lb-ft. of torque which is then mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. Add in the electric motor and you get an additional 131 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque through a two-speed automatic to the front wheels. That’s all-wheel drive motion with 362 horses and 320 lb-ft of torque, with a 0-62 time of 4.4 seconds. Fuel economy figures are impressive as well with 94 miles per gallon and a full charge coming from a 110-volt outlet in less than four hours. BMW Charging Stations can bring that time down to 1.5 hours.
BMW took the covers off its M4 Concept during a press conference in Pebble Beach, California. The BMW Concept M4 Coupe looks very close to the real thing, which may arrive at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show in January or the 2014 Geneva Auto Show in March. The BMW M4 coupe will replace the current BMW M3 coupe, with both likely to be unveiled early in 2014 with availability coming mid-2014. No word on what’s going to be under the hood but we’re expecting a turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine to take place of the current model’s 4.0-liter naturally aspirated V8. Expect a ton of weight-saving strategies to take place here as well ranging from the model’s iconic carbon fiber roof to extensive use of high-strength steels to the aluminum-rich suspension hardware. Carbon-ceramic brakes can eventually be expected on the options list, together with aluminum calipers that are together said to pare more than 100 pounds from the car’s curb weight.

BMW has officially taken the covers off the all-electric i3, the first of the German automaker’s i family of vehicles. The i3 blends sustainable design while using cutting-edge materials like Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastics to lighten the build while creating a streamlined exterior for improved aerodynamic efficiency. The i3 features a 170 horsepower electric powertrain that goes from 0-60 mph in 7 seconds. Full charge time takes roughly three hours with a range of 80 to 100 miles coming from a single charge. The i3 with Range Extender is also due to be released, which introduces a two-cylinder gas engine to double the driving range.
With a pricetag starting at about $41,000, look for the waiting lists to grow rather quickly.
Bentley Motors has confirmed that they will proceed with the development of the Bentley SUV, the company’s fourth model line. The SUV will be made in Crewe and will go on sale in 2016. This all equates to over 1,000 new jobs in the UK with Bentley also investing more than £800 million in its headquarters at Crewe and the development of new models.
The SUV will be a thoroughbred Bentley true to the brand hallmarks of luxury, performance, quality and craftsmanship. The styling will set it apart from any other SUV on the road and will be true to the Bentley design DNA. It will be the most luxurious and most powerful SUV in the market. The response from customers to a Bentley SUV has been extremely positive in the last 16 months.

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the 2014 S63 AMG 4Matic, the company’s flagship all-wheel-drive sedan. Power comes from a 5.5-liter V8 engine that dishes out 577 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque, which is a significant increase from the 536 hp and 590 lb-ft of the current model. With all the enhancements to the twin-turbos, direct injection, and tons more, the S63 still dropped 220 pounds by introducing aluminum construction (body panels, roof and front end), light-alloy wheels, a lithium-ion battery and a “weight-optimized AMG high-performance two-piece brake system. 0-60 mph can be reached in 3.9 seconds with the top speed electronically limited at 186 mph.
Looks wise, the S63 is slightly lower and features a more aggressive design. the revised grille and front end with larger air intakes, gloss-black accents, two sets of twin tail pips and AMG wheels all add to the appeal. Inside, look for AMG sport seats with embossed logos, carbon fiber and metal trim and an AMG steering wheel. One of our favorite details comes in the form of an analog clock in IWC design, which for the first time features three-dimensional, milled metal hands and metal appliqués on the dial.

Jaguar has officially unveiled the Project 7, an aluminum-bodied roadster that pays homage to Jaguar’s seven victories at Le Mans between 1951 and 1990. It’s based on the current Jaguar F-Type and features a D-type inspired rear fairing with an integrated rollover hoop. Other additions include a new front bumper, an enlarged grille and a ton of carbon fiber details. The rear wing and 20-inch alloy wheels finish things off. The interior is fitted with diamond-quilted leather upholstery, carbon fiber trim and a composite racing seat with four-point harness. The passenger seat is replaced by a bespoke helmet holder that secures a matching Project 7 helmet.
Under the hood, you’ll find a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 engine that delivers 550 HP and 502 lb/ft of torque which is mated to an eight-speed Quickshift transmission. 0-62 mph can be achieved in 4.2 seconds with an electronically-limited top speed of 186 mph.

BMW has officially taken the covers off the all-new 2014 4 Series, which is now the coupe branch of the entry-level 3 series sedan. The 4 Series will come in 428i and 435i variants, both of which will have an option for xDrive all-wheel drive. Identical to the 3 Series, the 428i is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine, delivering 240 horsepower and 255 pound-feet of torque, while the 435i gets BMW’s turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six making 300 hp and 300 lb-ft. In three of the four models, both a six-speed manual and eight-speed automatic transmission are available; the 428i xDrive can only be had with the auto ‘box. The 428i is clocked with a 5.7 second 0-60 mph time, while the 435i can achieve this in 5.3 seconds.
Aston Martin has unveiled the V12 Vantage S, the successor to the outgoing V12. With 565 horsepower and top speed at 205 mph, this 6.0-liter V12 allows for the new V12 Vantage S to be the fastest road-friendly Aston Martin ever built (outside the One-77). The third-gen seven-speed Sportshift automated manual transmission by Graziano shaves off 55 pounds while allowing for quicker gear shifts, similar to a dual-clutch setup. For the first time ever, Aston Martin is offering the ability to choose from three adaptive suspension damping modes — normal, sport and track. Design-wise, there are slight enhancements from the previous model, with the most noticeable changes being seen on the front grille.
Pricing’s projected around the $200,000 USD mark with availability coming early 2014.
