Moncler Sets Up Shop in Shanghai

Italy’s Moncler has been branching out of Europe recently with a boutique popping up in Hong Kong to complement their London, Milan and Paris shops. Now, Selectism turns us to their latest launch, an expansion into the heart of China with a Shanghai location. “Designed by the Gilles & Boissier architecture studio, the Shanghai boutique in Plaza 66 covers an area of 130 m² and recalls the DNA of the Moncler brand in its conception, whilst at the same time giving it a contemporary-luxury twist… Two large windows open into the Moncler world, emphasised by French panelling in carved wood with floral relief motifs. It is a welcoming look which is in stark contrast with the glass used for the central counter and the pierre bleu used for the walls and floor.”

Linked Hybrid in Beijing, China [Steven Holl]

Linked Hybrid in Beijing China

From Steven Holl Architects comes Linked Hybrid, a multi-purpose complex in Beijing, China. Design Boom tells us the project is 220,000 square-meters spread over eight interconnected towers. A series of skybridges joins the multiple structures together, each with different public functions. “Instead of a sealed off private tower, the building is a porous urban space that is open to the public on all sides. The complex houses over 750 apartments, recreation facilities, a hotel, school and various public and private facilities.” The building was recently named the ‘Best Tall Building’ in Asia and Australia by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH).”

Apple Store in Shanghai Opens this Fall, Designed by Ben Wood

This fall, Shanghai’s Apple Store will open its doors for the very first time. Up until now, we didn’t know what those doors would look like, but we are glad that some generous chap out there leaked these images. Architect Ben Wood mixes Apple‘s glass-and-steel minimalism with more traditional Chinese design. It’s a massive structure with three stories and we’re assuming lots of spiraling stairs.
