To commemorate its 50th anniversary, Lamborghini has released the Aventador LP720-4 50 Anniversario Edition. Originally slated to be unveiled later this month at the Shanghai Motor Show, the 710-horsepower behemoth will come in a yellow and black paint job (may be customizable) and boast a 2.9-second 0-to-62-mph time and top speed of 217 miles per hour. The special carbon fiber aero kit has a hand in this as it’s said to be 50 percent more efficent. Preliminary reports say only 100 of these will be made.

Maserati has taken the covers off the 2014 Maserati Ghibli ahead of its unveil at this month’s Shanghai Motor Show. With its efforts aimed directly at a segment dominated by the BMW 5-series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class, the Italian automaker hopes to jump into the volume-friendly price point on its way to 50,000 cars a year by 2015 as they announced a while back.
As you can see, the Ghibli will be sportier than the Quattroporte though don’t expect the interior to be anything short of what you’d expect from Maserati. The 2014 Ghibli will be offered up in a few different powertrains with a pair of 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engines (one gas, one diesel) helping to lead the charge. Mated to eight-speed automatic transmissions, expect a rear-wheel-drive configuration to come standard while Maserati’s new Q4 all-wheel-drive system will also be available.

Today marks the launch of Nigel Cabourn for Converse First String footwear collection, which features the Chuck Taylor All Star Bosey and the all-new Chuck Taylor All Star Specialty Plimsole. The UK-based designer is known for his infusion of military fabrics into his work, and that’s precisely what he’s done here with the First String collection. Cabourn examined Converse’s rich American heritage of boots and sneakers for the outdoors and the military and aligned the classic Chuck Taylor All Star Bosey with WWII flight suit fabric uppers in military-inspired navy and olive green colors.

Porsche will officially take the covers off the 2014 Porsche Panamera at the Shanghai Motor Show later this month but here’s the scoop. The refreshed Panamera features subtle enhancements to the exterior like new LED lighting including full LED headlamps and slight adjustments to the rear. We were really excited to learn that Porsche will now offer a Panamera S E-hybrid model which features plug-in technology that builds on the Panamera S Hybrid from a few years back. A more powerful electric motor and higher-performance battery have been added, with recharge times being quoted at two and a half hours when plugged in to a 240-volt outlet. Charging as well as other vehicle data can be monitored via a new Porsche Car Connect app available for Android and iOS devices.
The E-Hybrid is said to have an all-electric driving range of over 20 miles and will be able to travel at speeds up to 84 miles per hour just on electric power. The Panamera S Hybrid is still a Porsche and it shows with the performance figures — 0-60 mph in 5.2 seconds with a top speed of 167 mph. Total output for the E-Hybrid is coming in at 416 horsepower and 435 lb-ft of torque when mated to an eight-speed Tiptronic S transmission. The S and and 4S models will be ditching their naturally aspirated V8 engines for new 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 that delivers a boost in performance to 420 horses (up 20 from its predecessor) and 383 lb-ft of torque (up 15) and is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Facebook has opted out of designing a new phone and instead worked with the Google Android platform to create a new overlay that replaces your app icons with social info. The lockscreen’s replaced with Cover Feed and prioritizes updates from people instead of apps, whilst using an algorithm to determine the updates that are most important to you. Need access to your apps? Just swipe notifications off screen to dismiss them while using a long press can remove all notifications in one go. Full-screen images really give Home an engaging palette, with the end result being a blend between Android and iPhone social networking app Path. Plain text status updates are placed over a user’s cover photo, to keep the appearance consistent with photo-centric posts.
Chat Heads is Facebook’s new messaging app that’s featured in Home. It allows you to quickly and easily communicate with your friends without leaving the app yo’re in. Circular icons are featured on the right-hand side, with the ability to drag them to anywhere you like on the screen. Tap them and you open a pop-over chat dialog that combines IMs and text messages into a universal interface.

Hodinkee has informed us of IWC’s latest addition to their Portuguese Chronograph line of watches — the Chronograph Classic. Ditching the Valjoux-based movements, this beauty features an in-house IWC chronograph caliber 89361. The Portuguese Chronograph Classic features a 42mm case so it’s slightly larger than the normal Portuguese but features an arched-edge front glass that makes it appear to be a bit smaller than it actually is. The IWC caliber 89361 features a special register at 12 o’clock that displays elapsed time over 12 hours in the same format as a traditional watch or clock. This IWC caliber is also a flyback chronograph. Power reserve for caliber 89361 is 65 hours, while with the Valjoux it was just 44. Running seconds can found at 6 o’clock while the dial features applied arabic numerals with a railroad minute track. The data display at 3 o’clock is also something else not seen with the original and gives the new Chronograph Classic some much-welcomed differentiation.
The new IWC Portuguese Chronograph Classic is available in both rose gold and stainless steel, each with slate grey and silver dial options. All examples come with hand-made Santoni straps. Prices are set at $24,200 for rose gold and $14,400 for steel.

Porsche has taken the covers off the new 2013 911 RSR, bringing forth a GT race car for the 2013 season’s World Endurance Championship (WEC) and the Le Mans 24 Hours. Based on the seventh generation of the iconic 911 sports car, the latest RSR features a wheelbase that’s grown by roughly four inches while a new wishbone front suspension has been implemented as well. The new RSR has gone through some significant weight reduction as well with the introduction of a lighter PDK-enabled six-speed gearbox, more evenly balanced weight distribution with the center of gravity being much lower, and heavy usage of carbon fiber throughout the vehicle. With this also being the 911′s 50th anniversary, the number 50 is visible on a few key parts of the car and can even be seen from a bird’s eye view.

From San Francisco-based watch brand, Xetum, comes the new automotive-themed Kendrick. Xetum, led by founder Jeff Kuo, delivers timepieces that are purposely modern in design and feature automatic mechanical Swiss movements. Though the first two watches in the Xetum lineup have more of an aviation influence, the Xetum team looked to automotive instruments to guide the design of the Kendrick. The design features bold red and blue color schemes that grab your attention and are perfect for the summer months ahead, though we see this to be a great all-season watch. The Kendrick comes on a NATO or black rubber strap, both of which pair up quite nicely with the automotive theme. For the NATO straps, we’ve chosen colors that complement those of the dial, and the black rubber strap offers a sleek look to pair with the clean dial design as well as a butterfly clasp closure.
Like all Xetum watches before it, the Kendrick is designed in California and made in Switzerland. Available in three colorways — white with black, black with blue, black with white — it’s available now through Xetum for $995.
