Google’s newly unveiled Nexus Q is essentially the internet giant’s answer to the Apple TV. It streams your favorite entertainment directly from the cloud to your living room but axes the onscreen interface. Everything’s controlled from a compatible phone or tablet with media streaming in from your Google Play and YouTube apps. The design is simplistic with a sphere-like shell and only a few discreet ports on the back to plug into your speakers, AV receiver or HDTV. Once you’re playing, you can control the volume from your handheld device, or simply by turning the top half of Nexus Q. Just touch the top LED to mute the sound completely. The Google Nexus Q is priced at $299 with availability via pre-order through Google.

Oh, that’s nice. You’re looking at a new wide angle lens from Carl Zeiss — the Distagon T* 2,8/15. The German lens maker’s latest creation will be available with for Canon EF and Nikon F mounts. The lens can focus from just 25cm (10″) and offers a 110 deg and is said to be extremely quick. Other Distagon fixed focal lengths include 18mm, 21mm, 25mm, 28mm, and 35mm. Expect the 15mm model to entice photogs into architectural and landscape photography. It features 15 optical elements, including two aspheric elements and glass with abnormal partial dispersion to control distortion and chromatic aberration. It features an integrated lens hood and accepts 95mm threaded filters.
The price is marked at $2,948 with a release date set for May 2012.
