Attention early adopters: Apple’s updated their line of MacBook Pros with some beefed up performance. The aluminum shells remain but one of the standout features is something that most probably haven’t ever heard of. The Thunderbolt port allows you to connect high-performance peripherals and high-res displays to a single port. Transfer rates are theoretically upto 10 Gbps which is just nuts. There aren’t that many Thunderbolt-compatible peripherals out right now but that should change over the coming months.

Apple 11-inch & 13-inch MacBook Air, Starting at $999

Apple 11-inch & 13-inch MacBook Air, Starting at $999

Apple’s extremely popular MacBook Air just got a much-welcomed facelift. At the Cupertino-based company’s “Back to the Mac” event, two new versions of the Air were unveiled, an 11- and 13-inch model. The “World’s Thinnest Notebook” will come with all-flash SSD storage, making the sleep to wake time pretty quick. Of course, there’s a multi-touch trackpad and a long-lasting battery which will dish out anywhere from five to seven hours of energy plus up to 30 days of standby depending on the model you pick up.

The resolution on the screen is pretty impressive, given the fact it’s only 0.19 inch thin. Oh, is that a FaceTime camera we see? The one on the MacBook Air is thinner than the one you’ll find inside your iPhone 4. Cool thing to note is that FaceTime for Mac is now in beta and available for all Mac users. This means you can FaceTime with folks with own an iPhone 4 or the new iPod Touch. Things definitely just got a heck of alot more interesting.

The best part about the MacBook Air, aside from the lightweight shell, internal goodies and outstanding performance given the size of the damn thing, is the price. The Air will start at $999, which really makes it an easy sell.

Nikon D7000 Unveiled to Battle Canon 60D

Nikon D7000 Unveiled to Battle Canon 60D

The battle continues between Canon and Nikon with the release of the Nikon D7000, a monstrous beauty that brings the goods. Though it’s got 16 megapixels compared to the Canon EOS 60D, all know by now the pixel count should never be the leading selling point for an SLR. The D7000 has plenty of other solid reasons including a mesmerizing 39-point Autofocus system, 100-percent viewfinder coverage, 1080p video at 24 fps, dual SD card slots (yes, dual), a partially magnesium alloy shell to deliver increased durability. It’s also got continuous autofocus and a stereo mic and the ability to record video non-stop for 20-minutes. Yes, there’s a cap but a small price to pay to get the mic and enhanced 1080p shooting on board.

Look for this to drop in mid-October for $1,200 for the body only (note: the Canon EOS 60D runs for about $100 less), or $1,500 with an 18-105 lens kit. There are also a few additions to the lens lineup as well as an upgraded flash. You can get the AF-S 200mm f/2G ED VR II for $5,999.95, an AF-S 35mm f/1.4G for $1,799.95, and an SB-700 Speedlight for $329.95.

The DSLR is looking rock solid with 18-megapixels, a single DIGIC 4 process and the ability to capture 1080p H.264 video. You can even edit your vids with an in-camera editing feature. The flexible 3-inch LCD screen is sure to come in handy as well. The ISO range is tremendous – 100 to 6,400 – and is purported to be expandable to 12,800. Processing RAW images from within the camera is also a reality. The Canon EOS 60D will be hitting retailers by end of September and is priced at $1,099 body only, or $1,400 when bundled with a 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS zoom lens.
