Web Meets Phone: Google Phone Nexus One Packs Android 2.1, 1GHz Processor

Web Meets Phone: Google Phone Nexus One

After all the hands-on reviews and final build speculations, we’ve finally gotten an official release for the Nexus One from Google. So what sets this HTC-built Android phone from all the others before it? Well, for one, it’s got Android 2.1, the latest build of the rapidly growing OS. On top of that, it’s got a slim body with a whole lotta goodness – 3.7-inch AMOLED display, 1GHz Snapdragon processor, compass, GPS, accelerometer, light and proximity sensor, 5 megapixel camera with LED flash, 3.5mm headphone jack, and a multicolored LED under the trackball. Beyond the essentials, it’s also got two mics onboard, one on the bottom and one on the back, for the purpose of noise cancellation à la Motorola’s CrystalTalk.

The unit can be custom engraved with two lines of text at the time of order and can be bought today off contract with a T-Mobile compatible radio for $529 unlocked, with shipping to the US, UK, Singapore and Hong Kong, or with a two year T-Mobile US contract for $179 (both with free overnight shipping in the US).

The Ten Most Popular Phones in the US [Nielsen]

The Ten Most Popular Phones in the US [Nielsen]

The Nielsen Company recently released some stats that outline mobile usage giving us a look at what Americans are doing through their phones and with which device. From January to November, the iPhone, BlackBerry 8300 and Moto Razr stand as the top three most popular phones among Americans. Also, the company turned us to a chart that outlines the top ten websites accessed over the mobile web. Hit the jump for that list, but it’s safe to say that no one was surprised when they saw Google Search as number one. (more…)

Price + Details: Red Scarlet 2/3

Price + Details: Red Scarlet 2/3

Anticipation for the perfect professional-grade camera has been building ever since the Red Scarlet 2/3 was initially announced about a year ago. An additional ASIC and four additional boards bring plenty of new features to light from the December 2008 announcement, maybe enough justification for the price-bump from $3,750 to $4,750. Scarlet starts with a 2/3-inch sensor in the $4,750 Scarlet 8X Fixed package (including “brain” and fixed 8x zoom lens, side CF module, REDmote, 2.8-inch touchscreen with “touch focus tracking,” REDVOLT battery, and travel charger) or $2,750 for the Scarlet Interchangeable which includes the brain-only with adapters available for electronic RED, Canon, and Nikon glass. The resulting cam shoots 3k REDCODE RAW video at 120fps (150fps burst mode) and scaled 720p or 1080p recording at 60fps. Expect both models to ship in May or June assuming nothing goes wrong with the ASIC or firmware.

Now Available: GQ iPhone App

Now Available: GQ iPhone App

The whole world’s gone digital but I’ve never stopped subscribing to GQ Magazine. Why? Not sure, actually. Maybe because it’s iconic, or the fact that it’s always up-to-date even when guys like us are reporting on a daily basis. And yes, the ads. I still love checking out Tom Ford’s new campaigns in between an article about the next must-have blazer and the new It girl. It’s a good supplement. Especially, for a train ride or something.

Well, Conde Nast is no fool. With the mobile market on the rise, they will be launching issues through the App Store, at $2.99 per issue compared to the 4 or 5 bucks you might pay at the newsstand. It’s got all the pages, all the ads plus in page links to the items your drooling over. It’s robust and while I don’t see myself stopping my subscription, I will surely pick this up for more discreet and convenient viewing in the office or during my trips.

The first issue is in the App Store now, December 2009 – The Men of the Year Issue. That spread we turned you to of Gossip Girl’s Leighton Meester is in this issue. Reason enough, I think.

Update – GQ’s informed us that once the content has downloaded, it’s available for offline viewing. Perfect for the frequent travelers out there.

That was pretty quick, I just got an email from Netflix saying my Instant Streaming Disc for PS3 should be arriving tomorrow! I’ve been encouraged to add movies and shows to my instant Queue. The email also had an ad for the PlayStation Store. Both Netflix and Sony see Netflix on PS3 as a non-competing service and we’d have to agree.

Look out for yours if you’ve already reserved it!
