The folks at Gear Patrol have never ceased to amaze us with their work ethic, creativity and their relentless approach for doing the epic. Case in point, the team’s recent West Coast Blitz with two sets of keys in hand — one for the 2012 Nissan GT-R and another for the 2012 Black Diamond Edition Cadillac CTS-V. Their excuse? To get a cup of Joe from Blue Bottle Coffee, a local sensation in San Francisco. The problem was they were in LA. 400 miles between them and their Blue Bottle, they hit the road with 1,100 horses combined. Round trip — that’s 800 miles of pure adrenaline and lucky for us, they got it all on camera.

Our friends over at Gear Patrol have teamed up with swimwear label Onia for this limited-edition colorway of their Amaury board short. You may recall our recent interview with Carl of Onia as he discussed why he chose to enter the swimwear market highlighting a major gap in finding a well-fitting pair of shorts that’s not overdone with pockets and designs. Onia’s designs are more timeless with a more tailored fit, an 8″ inseam and curved waistband and are technically sound with their paneled cotton nylon construction.
They’re made in the USA and this special collaboration in ocean blue are limited to 99 pieces. These feature khaki detailing on the drawstring, zipper linings and a coin pocket.

A short while back, I had the opportunity to sit down with the folks at Gear Patrol to check out what awesome stuff they’re cooking up. Come to find out, an iPad app was in the works. The design was extremely unique and was one of the few designs we’ve seen that brought the published content to light in a different way than its browser-friendly counterparts. Top to bottom, GP made everything from the eyes of the reader, giving us as fans the opportunity to really enjoy reading and finally giving us a solid reason to browse the site from an iPad. The app’s seamlessly integrated with Instapaper, Twitter, Facebook, and much more and even features Viewfinder, a section dedicated to videos.

Last week, I had the opportunity to join my good friends from Hodinkee, Gear Patrol, Forbes and a few other publications as well as a small group of Hodinkee loyalists for a dinner hosted by ‘dinkee and Stephen Hallock of MB&F. On display were ten horological machines from MB&F and were available to touch, feel and try on. We are now in a very small group of individuals that have been given such an opportunity to see these rare pieces in person, let alone ten of them at once. Much thanks to Ben Clymer at Hodinkee and the fine folks at MB&F for making this happen, it was truly an honor.
Mr. Yang of Gear Patrol went to work with his Fuji X100 and took some amazing shots, some of which we’ve highlighted below for your viewing. Enjoy!
