The Scent | Odin New York 08 Seylon

We recently had the opportunity to review one of Odin New York’s latest fragrances — No 08 Seylon. The scent’s harvested from Sri Lanka with an authentic interpretation of pure vetiver. Perfumer Phillipe Romano has done an exceptional job with his latest creation, laying the watery crispness of fresh yuzu follwed by the tartness of bitter orange and bergamot. The middle notes of spicy nutmeg and the absinth-aroma of wormwood blent with a rich base of warm benzoin, damp oakmoss and the soft earthiness of calming vetiver.

No 08 Seylon is a very inviting scent in my option. It’s not overbearing and though it lasts throughout the day, the citrus/vetiver blent works effortlessly and gives it some versatility.

The first of many endeavors to come is this fragrance, a solid blend of woodsy, spicy, Indian attar, with a refreshing citrus top note. “We combine original scents in their purest form to create a warm and refreshing scent that is distinctive and made for men, but also appeals to women.” The oils are bottled in Brooklyn and contain Imported Attar from the Kamauj Uttar Padesh region of India. This unisex scent, 07 Tanoke, was developed with Paris-based Drom perfumer Corinne Cachen and blends memorable outdoor notes of Northern California. Ginger, orange, pepper, redwood and gaiac wood are all blended in 07 Tanoke. Other unisex scents in the lineup include 01 Nomad, 02 Owari, 03 Century, 04 Petrana and 06 Amanu.

Now Open | Aesop Ginza Japan Store

Aesop continues to build their presence in some high value areas, this time opening up shop in the district of Ginza, Japan. The original masonry facade and stairway for the upper level tenants was retained and carried into the interior of the 38 sq. meter space, integrating the material into the product display shelves. The design really is magnificent and works well with the image of the Aesop brand. This being the Aesop’s second standalone store in Japan, it’s truly remarkable and a job well done by the team at Schemata Architecture. (via design boom)

GANT Fragrance

GANT Fragrance Fall/Winter 2011

Gant has launched their first in-house fragrance aptly called “GANT”. It’s inspired in part by the New England waters and coastal living lifestyle. Pierre Dinand designed the bottle and pulled inspiration from wicker baskets that cargo ships in the old days used to transport fragile goods. If that wasn’t enough, Gant also commissioned Pierre Wulff to craft this unique fragrance formula. He chose some exclusive ingredients and created a scent that pulls in the freshness and airy sense of the ocean and combined these characteristics with dark woods and tar ropes.

The film below highlights the relationship between the two gifted talents and how they worked together. This cooperation is pretty special in itself as many times this work is very separate. Now Open | Aesop New York

Australian cosmetics brand Aesop has opened up shop in the New York City neighborhood of Nolita. The interior design of the space explores the construction possibilities of newspapers as reclaimed copies of the New York Times have been used as a building material and acknowledgement of the brand’s well-known respect for the written word and history of each city it sets up shop in. A unique feature of this store is the screening on the walls of Criterion films. Look for the entire cosmetics collection at Aesop’s New York shop. (via super future)
