We recently had the opportunity to review one of Odin New York’s latest fragrances — No 08 Seylon. The scent’s harvested from Sri Lanka with an authentic interpretation of pure vetiver. Perfumer Phillipe Romano has done an exceptional job with his latest creation, laying the watery crispness of fresh yuzu follwed by the tartness of bitter orange and bergamot. The middle notes of spicy nutmeg and the absinth-aroma of wormwood blent with a rich base of warm benzoin, damp oakmoss and the soft earthiness of calming vetiver.

No 08 Seylon is a very inviting scent in my option. It’s not overbearing and though it lasts throughout the day, the citrus/vetiver blent works effortlessly and gives it some versatility.

Among them is Thom Browne, Todd Snyder, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Burkman Bros., White Mountaineering, rag & bone, Shipley & Halmos, Creep, Richard Chai and a few others. With five other extremely well-received scents in Odin New York’s lineup already, here’s another one that’s sure to get your attention. This unisex scent, 07 Tanoke, was developed with Paris-based Drom perfumer Corinne Cachen and blends memorable outdoor notes of Northern California. Ginger, orange, pepper, redwood and gaiac wood are all blended in 07 Tanoke. Other unisex scents in the lineup include 01 Nomad, 02 Owari, 03 Century, 04 Petrana and 06 Amanu.

Odin New York 07 Tanoke is available in 100 ml Eau de Toilette for $125 through Odin boutiques as well as select Barneys locations.

Yesterday, the folks behind Bespoken, the online MTM brand, launched a pop-up inside Odin’s Lafayette Street location. The space, dubbed the “Bespoken Shirt Bar”, offers all the variations of shirts possible by Bespoken and showcases original illustrations that detail sizing and collar options. New York-based retailer Odin has delivered way more than just clothing over the past few years, with their in-house line of scents and candles doing quite well for them as well. They’ve had such great success in this segment that they’ve gone from their 04 Petrana scent straight to 06 Amanu, one you’ll find exclusively at Barneys New York (05 has already been reserved by Chanel).

As for the scent itself, it features the woody rusticity of cedarleaf and the heady complexity of jasmine sambac. Rooting textures of amberwood, musk and live moss endow this earthy scent with a lush maturity.

Don’t think this will be something of the norm but we’ve always been a fan of Odin New York so when they do something remarkable, we’re listening. With their four fragrances doing extremely well since launch, they’ve decided to drop the Home Fragrance Series, a collection of scented home candles made from hand poured slate-colored wax and sleek translucent black glass. The flame takes on the amber hue drawing a direction relation to the amber glow of the fine fragrance.

The black solid lid also doubles as a stand. Look for these at all of Odin’s New York locations as well as online.

Refinery 29 recently dropped a top 10 list highlighting some of New York City’s finest menswear shops. Though we’ve highlighted most of them in our own list of men’s NYC Shops, it’s worth checking out as it includes a few we’ve yet to add. Patience is a virtue. Notables on the list include Odin, Atelier and J.Crew’s newest Men’s Shop located on Madison Ave.

I recently had the chance to visit Colin, manager of Odin New York‘s SoHo location. The man really knows alot about the shop’s offerings and the men’s market in general. I got a wiff of Odin’s lineup of fragrances, including their newest addition to the stable, 04 Petrana. Plenty of boxes were being cracked open as fall lines had begun making their way into the store. Colin showed off a few items from the Florsheim x Duckie Brown collaboration as well as Burkman Brothers’ finest pieces. Though I felt like a kid in a candy shop, I couldn’t help but to gravitate towards this well-crafted long coat on sight.

For anyone not familiar, Edward is a made-in-USA collaboration between Duckie Brown and Odin New York. We’re talking clean designs and the utilization of some top-notch fabrics. This wool coat plays the tune really well, as it’s versatile, well-crafted and will surely be a go-to piece in your fall wardrobe. The enticing price point is just icing on the cake.

Many people are under the notion that men should avoid floral scents at all costs, but I beg to differ. The right mixture delivers a timeless scent, and 04 Petrana is most certainly ranking high on our list of scents for 2010/2011. Without getting to technical with details, just know Odin has cooked up their fourth scent, this time utilizing rare ingredients such as Black Iris, Pink Pepper and Herbaceous Coriander. (more…)

Still looking for the perfect cologne? Well you may be in luck as Odin has entered the market with a line of unisex fragrances. Co-owners Eddy Chai and Paul Biradi teamed up with Larry Paul and Kelly Kovack of Purpose-Built for the project, with the end result being three distinct fragrances that are sure to please the masses. They will be carried exclusively in the Los Angeles area at Studio Beautymix @ Fred Segal, as well as nationally at other locations. (via Fashionisto)
