HODINKEE Pop-Up Store in San Francisco

HODINKEE Pop-Up Store in San Francisco at Taylor Stitch

Well, if blessing New York with an amazing pop-up of vintage watches a few months back wasn’t enough, our friends at HODINKEE have setup a similar offering for folks in the Bay area for this weekend. Mission-based retailer Taylor Stitch is playing host to the first ever West Coast HODINKEE pop-up store and we’ve got a preview of what to expect before making your way over to Valencia Street. Beyond all the timepieces, HODINKEE is bringing along some of the goods from their online shop which offers up Italian-made watch straps and pouches for your most valuable possessions.

The offerings will range from classics to cult watches like a vintage IWC Ingenieur and Omega Bullhead chrono, to a veritable British Military issued mono-pusher chrono from Lemania. We have really special collector’s pieces like an early Heuer Carrera Dato from 1967 with a black dial (try to find another one for sale right now), to one of the rarest vintage Rollies around – the Ref 1530 (an automatic watch in the case usually used for quartz – aka Rolex’s answer to the Royal Oak and their first watch with a sapphire crystal).

The show starts today and runs until Sunday evening, with daily hours being from 11am to 7pm. Taylor Stitch is located at 383 Valencia Street, San Francisco, CA. Scroll down to catch a glimpse of what to expect.

Now Open | The Pop Up Flea, SoHo

Now Open | The Pop Up Flea, SoHo

Open now in SoHo is The Pop Up Flea‘s third coming and this time, it’s bigger than ever. The list of brands on hand this year is tremendous with some of our favorite labels showing up for this once-a-year showing. Atop the list of notables is Michael Williams‘ own ACL & Co., which teamed up with San Francisco-based Tellason for a special pair of denims that debuted last night at the opening of The Pop Up Flea. Mark McNairy also showed up with some of his finest shoes, including his collaborations with Engineered Garments and Bass Weejuns. For the first time ever, L.L.Bean’s Signature collection was shown outside the label’s Freeport, Maine shop.

We could honestly go on and on about all the happenings at The Pop Up Flea but you’ll have to just go in there and experience it for yourself before it shuts down on Sunday. Saturday the 20th, it’s open from 11am to 7pm and Sunday the 21st, it’s open from 11am to 6pm.

The Pop Up Flea in New York City Begins November 19th

Michael Williams of ACL and Randy Goldberg of Urban Daddy are bringing back The Pop Up Flea to NYC this coming weekend, and it’s looking more grand than ever. The list of brands has increased tremendously since the last time around so expect even more great items and even more exclusives. The majority of items are said to be brand new but there will be some vintage stuff thrown into the mix by some of the brands as well.

Vendors include Oak Street Bootmakers, J.W Hulme, Levi’s Vintage Clothing, L.L. Bean Signature, Smith + Butler, Tellason, Billykirk, Aether, Tanner Goods, Scout Original, Wooden Sleepers, Riviera Club, Alexander Olch, Gant, Oliver Spencer, The Hill-Side / Hickoree’s Hard Goods, Grown & Sewn, Stanley & Sons, J.Crew, Gitman Brothers Vintage, Schott NYC, Digby & Iona, Alexander West, Leather Head / Lemon Ball, Mark McNairy and a few others that have yet to be unveiled.

The Pop Up Flea will be located at Openhouse Gallery at 201 Mulberry Street (btw Spring and Kenmare) in New York City from the 19th of November til the 21st. Hours of operation are: Friday November 19th (3-9pm), Saturday the 20th (11am-7pm) and Sunday the 21st (11am-6pm).

All-in-all, it’s going to be a sick lineup. There are brands here that we seldom get an opportunity to see in person, even in New York City, so we’re pretty excited.

Pop-Up | Rest Store Inside Nepenthes NY

Pop-Up | Rest Store Inside Nepenthes NY

Last night, I ran into Engineered Garments assistant designer Abdul Abasi on the streets on NYC and he gave me some updates on happenings at Nepenthes NY, a new low-key shop that opened up not too long ago. The store is a gem retailer out of Japan and the go-to retail outlet for labels like Needles, Engineered Garments, and South 2 West 8. Abdul turned me to Jake Davis’s blog to get an exclusive look at the Rest Store shop-in-shop, now located on the second floor of Nepenthes.

For the month of October Angelo Urrutia has curated his favorite things from Made With Rest. Previously only available at his exclusive appointment only boutique Rest Store on Mulberry Street. If you haven’t checked out Nepenthes yet, make sure to do so. The MWR offerings will just be an added bonus.

Florsheim by Duckie Brown Spring/Summer 2011 Lookbook

Florsheim by Duckie Brown Spring/Summer 2011 Lookbook

This past week, Florsheim opened the doors to a pop-up store on Mercer Street in SoHo, NY. Florsheim hired Paul Birardi and Eddy Chai, co-owners of Odin, to execute the shop and the result is a two-floor setup which may act as a template for potential revision of Florsheim’s 35 existing, freestanding stores in the US as well as a model for potential shop-in-shops at major department stores.

We were on-hand at the opening and even got a chance to check out some of the pieces from the Florsheim by Duckie Brown collection and the collaboration’s Spring 2011 collection. Some may remember the “Woven Idler” from the Duckie Brown Spring 2011 Runway Show which took place at last week’s New York Fashion Week. Daniel Silver and Steven Cox, the creative engines behind Duckie Brown, are doing an amazing job and the spring line only fortifies this. Look for plenty of standouts like the corduroy cap toes or navy-finish brogues.
