J.Crew presented their men’s and women’s collections for Fall/Winter 2013 at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, showcasing two very complete and wearable collections. The brand’s done an exceptional job raising awareness for the presentation through their various social and digital outlets, most notably Instagram and Tumblr. The hype was built and J.Crew delivered.
Frank Muytjens, head of men’s design, pulled inspiration from many places including wide-angled David Bailey portraits from the 1960s, particularly ones of Michael Caine, a visit to the Welsh countryside and a day-trip to Oxford, England. The designer reexamined classics – English tweeds, oilcloth, herringbones and black watch fabrics, but cut in clean silhouettes gave them a kind of strong, masculine heft. These rich fabrics are delivered effortlessly in J.Crew’s Ludlow suit fit while other complimentary pieces fill up the rest of the collection. All-in-all, we saw the suiting for F/W 2013 to be the strongest we’ve ever seen from the American label.

Last night, Public School presented their Fall/Winter 2013 collection at Milk MADE Studios and we on hand to check it out. Designers Maxwell Osborne and Dao-Yi Chow have always looked at Public School to find perfection in imperfection and so the theme for F/W 2013 is natural. It centers around destruction and reconstruction to portray the essence of breaking objects down to their core and building them back up. Fabric development is key here with wool blended knits and stretch skins, making way for a solid collection featuring some top-notch pieces. The lineup includes tailored jackets with leather sleeves, ombre and fabric blocking in everything from shirts to sweaters as well as a few motorcycle jackets we can’t wait to see in-stores come this fall.
All the looks were paired with Generic Man x Public School creepers.

Here we have a look at Boglioli‘s setup at Pitti Uomo 83. The Italian label’s Fall/Winter 2013 collection, inspired in the work of avant-garde artist Bruno Contenotte, emphasises once again Boglioli’s passion for experimenting with unique materials and colours. Colour occupies space, organises it and shapes it. The artist’s lesson, logical and insane at the same time, sends Boglioli once again down unusual paths, to reach surprising effects. The colour palette focuses on golden oak, military olive, ginger bread, legion blue and rustic brown.
The overall vision of the latest lineup also pulls inspiration from Great Britain, with its history, traditions and culture. The concept of Heritage underpins the company’s journey through the sophisticated and elegant British world. Blend this with Boglioli’s contemporary outlook and constant search for new directions, innovative fabrics, treatments and cuts, we get a line that takes elegance and refinement to new heights. Here we have a look at J.Lindeberg‘s Spring/Summer 2013 collection presented during New York Fashion Week. The label really aims to take it back to their Scandinavian roots and the “Swedish from above” theme for the season is spot on with the delivery. The offerings range from fine suiting in shades of blue and beige to nylon and leather outerwear layered effortlessly in the styled shots. S/S ’13 is also the first time the women’s line was showcased in North America and as the Swedish brand has really made some great strides over the years, the timing is just right.

Earlier today, New York-based Public School presented their S/S ’13 collection during an eventful Sunday at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week here in NYC. The inspiration behind their latest lineup is “structure” as they looked to classic architectural forms to help frame the collection both historically and figuratively.
We examined the concept of “structure” and how it exists contextually within society. We were very interested how a delicate balance and network of relationships helped to form structure and provide a base in which all law and order was supported.

During this month’s Milan Fashion Week, Boglioli presented their S/S ’13 menswear collection in a converted factory space. The offerings ranged from their signature unconstructed jackets, garment dyed suiting and casual, tailored staples while the event featured food and drink prepared by legendary figures of classic Italian menswear including Nino Cerruti (owner of Cerruti 1884), Lucian Barbera (of Luciano Barbera), and Mario Boglioli himself.
The Spring 2013 collection draws inspiration from two American gentlemen of the 1920′s: Ernest Hemingway and F. Scott Fitzgerald, icons of a sophisticated and timeless class. Classic elements of elegance are re-interpreted by Boglioli in a contemporary key with the addition of refined and sought-after elements.

London-based designer Ozwald Boateng had an exceptional showing at last week’s London Fashion Week. Though his Fall 2012 collection is not as vibrant as we’ve seen from him in season’s past, it’s still one to keep an eye on for next winter. The warm fabrics and muted tones play well together while the cuts deliver a well-crafted lineup of goods. The Japanese-inspired aesthetics blend well with the British roots of the label and make for some must-have offerings.

Todd Snyder presented his Fall 2012 collection this week at New York Fashion Week. Entitled, “American in Paris”, the offerings are loosely inspired by Brassai’s louche photographic visions of Paris de nuit. Included in the lineup are tailored topcoats and a ton of more military-inspired pieces such as sulfur-dyed cargos, black indigo office sweaters, and oiled moleskin pea coats. Looks at the entire collection below.

New York Fashion Week has been quite exceptional thus far and Native Son continues with the presentation of their Fall 2012 collection. Fall/Winter 2012 marks the first of a four season collaboration with North Carolina based Raleigh Denim.
