That was pretty quick, I just got an email from Netflix saying my Instant Streaming Disc for PS3 should be arriving tomorrow! I’ve been encouraged to add movies and shows to my instant Queue. The email also had an ad for the PlayStation Store. Both Netflix and Sony see Netflix on PS3 as a non-competing service and we’d have to agree.
Look out for yours if you’ve already reserved it!

So you’re not a hardcore gamer but would love to play a football game that doesn’t require a degree in statistics (note: I don’t have a degree in statistics but kick ass in Madden)? Well, get ready for Madden NFL Arcade which is set to hit the PlayStation Store and XBox Live sometime in December. It’s quite similar to where-are-they-now Blitz and Street franchises of years past, but offers that Madden-esque feel that we’ve all come to love (even when we shouldn’t). It’s strictly five-on-five football with players given the choice to select long-, medium-, or short-pass plays or runs and basic defensive packages, then going head-to-head in a game that’s more like street basketball than a pro one.
Madden NFL Arcade will be a download-only game that’s due to release sometime in December. Crave had the opportunity go hands-on so we suggest checking the read here for full details. Screenshots after the jump. (more…)

Alright Fanboys, we know the 3.0 firmware for the PS3 isn’t as exciting as we had hoped, but it’s out now so head to your unit and hit the System Update button. Mine’s downloading right now and I’m looking forward to the design tweaks but I wish this update was bringing more than just that.

With all the rumors and speculations piling up, Sony’s finally taken the veil off their slim PS3. It weighs less than the original and takes up 32 percent less space. It’s also an energy saver, as it consumes 34 percent less power. The first week of September’s looking great, as North America, Europe and Japan will all be getting the opportunity to grab one. It’ll retail for $300 (or 300 Euro, or 29,980 Yen) with a 120 HDD and all the same features as the original.
If you do happen to have the original PS3, then expect your eBay value to drop as MSRPs on all original SKUs as prices are being cut by $100 on each model. Engadget explains, “The new 3.0 firmware will be released concurrently with the PS3 slim, which should provide a breath of fresh air for existing machines. Other new features of the PS3 slim include BRAVIA Sync, which allows you to control the PS3 XMB over HDMI through your BRAVIA TV remote, and System Standby to shut off the PS3 when the BRAVIA TV is off. Sony also claims this new machine will run more quietly than existing PS3 systems.”

We’ve seen some pretty lackluster special editions of video games come out, always leaving our stomachs half full. The guys over at Activision and Infinity Ward have done right by us with the Prestige Edition of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which is set to drop sometime in November. This version of the highly-anticipated game will sit atop the food chain, as it includes fully-functional night vision goggles. No word yet on how the toy will work, but we can’t wait to see.
With the “Collector’s Edition” of MW2 priced at $80 over at GameStop, we’re guessing this toy won’t come cheap. Someone’s already had the honors of doing the official unboxing which you can catch over at Engadget.

Word in the blogosphere is that Sony‘s awarded two companies contracts on the highly rumored and anticipated PS3 Slim, with shipment dates falling in this new month of July. There hasn’t been an official “leak” from Sony yet and no concrete evidence has come out as of yet, so maybe it’s just a fanboy’s dreams weighing in the balance. Only time will tell, amiright?

In October, Tekken 6 will hit shelves nationwide, but HORI is blessing us with a wireless fighting stick bundle. Included in the $150 price tag is a wireless fighting stick (obviously), the game and an art book. This is the PS3 bundle, as there is no word yet on one for the 360. The game is set for a October 27th release date.

Gizmodo has gotten their hands on the full keynote presentation of Sony’s new Motion Controller which was unveiled earlier at E3. It’s like the Wiimote but more simple and elegant. It uses a technique similar to Hollywood-style motion capture, with the PS Eye camera tracking a purple ball on the stick. There can be two sticks, which also have a trigger for first person shooters.
The only thing that upsets about this new toy is that it will be releasing the Spring of 2010.

VidZone is going to be Sony’s music video streaming service for the PlayStation 3, giving users access thousands of videos for free whenever they want. Using Remote Play with your PSP, you can access the videos on the go. VidZone is already one of Europe’s leading online music video services and by being accessible as application on all of the continent’s PS3s, we can’t wait to see what else this will birth.
All you have to do is download the VidZone music video application from PlayStation Store, free of charge, and access the service via the icon that appears under [Music] on the PS3 Home Menu (XMB). That’s all you have to do to get free, unlimited access to thousands of music videos, with many more coming in regular updates.
It’s an enticing offer from Sony but unfortunately, only Europe is set to receive it in the coming months.
