Now Open | Silver Lining Opticians at 92 Thompson Street

Now Open | Silver Lining Opticians at 92 Thompson Street

Our favorite eyewear boutique just got a bit roomier. New York City’s Silver Lining Opticians has moved a few doors down to a more roomier, more lavish local while keeping intact everything we’ve come to love from the shop. Expect to see plenty of hard-to-find vintage pieces alongside modern classics. They’ve got their own line out in full force as well which is definitely worth check out. We’ve always felt that the shop is one of the city’s hidden gems, but their following has grown substantially since they first opened up in 2007. Being the gracious hosts owners Erik Sacher and Jordan Silver are, it’s only right they accommodate.

Stop by the new boutique at 92 Thompson Street to see what all the buzz is about.

Now Open | Fjällräven Store for Fall 2010

Photos provided by Paul + Williams

The Fjällräven store reopened this past week at 262 Mott Street here in New York. It’s been redesigned for the fall with some great product on hand as well as an amazing setup. The Swedish label pulled out all the stops, with tents on walls and products that appeal to urban dwellers and the outdoorsman alike. We actually previewed the brand’s impeccable fall collection a few months back and are glad to see it finally available.

Beyond Fjällräven’s iconic backpacks, look for other great items such as their line of military-inspired jackets.

Yale Co-Op | Gant Campus Store

Yale Co-Op | Gant Campus Store

In 1949, brothers Marty and Elliot Gant founded Gant Shirtmakers and opened their factory in Fair Haven, CT. They were making shirts for many brands, big and small including J-Press. At one point, their consistency and dedication to making high quality shirts made them the second largest shirt maker in the world. Next month, Gant will be returning to their birthplace, but this time with a retail mindset rather than a manufacturing one.

The first-ever Gant Campus Store will soon kick open its doors, and shortly thereafter, in honor of our homecoming, yet another legend will be reborn: a brand new selection of Yale Co-Op shirts, recreated from our 1960′s originals, no detail ignored.

The Gant Campus Store will be located at 268 York Street, on the corner of Broadway. Look for the doors to open in November.

Pop-Up | Rest Store Inside Nepenthes NY

Pop-Up | Rest Store Inside Nepenthes NY

Last night, I ran into Engineered Garments assistant designer Abdul Abasi on the streets on NYC and he gave me some updates on happenings at Nepenthes NY, a new low-key shop that opened up not too long ago. The store is a gem retailer out of Japan and the go-to retail outlet for labels like Needles, Engineered Garments, and South 2 West 8. Abdul turned me to Jake Davis’s blog to get an exclusive look at the Rest Store shop-in-shop, now located on the second floor of Nepenthes.

For the month of October Angelo Urrutia has curated his favorite things from Made With Rest. Previously only available at his exclusive appointment only boutique Rest Store on Mulberry Street. If you haven’t checked out Nepenthes yet, make sure to do so. The MWR offerings will just be an added bonus.

Esquire | Inside Polo Ralph Lauren's Rhinelander Mansion [NYC]

The Polo Mansion is an iconic landmark in New York’s Upper East Side and New York City as a whole and rightfully so. I mean, how many shops have you been to in the past that have delivered such a complete shopping experience? If any do come to mind, then it’s because they all took influence from The Mansion, a shop that’s been around for nearly twenty-five years. The last quarter of a Century have been tremendous for RL, hence the reason for the label’s expansion in product offerings which ranges far beyond clothing these days.

Recently, Ralph Lauren bought a space across the street from The Mansion to house the women’s and home collections while dedicating all 16,000 square feet of space in The Mansion to the men’s offerings. Polo, Black Label and Purple Label each have dedicated floors to deliver their products atop one that brings it all together. The amenities at this place are redic as made-to-measure services are in house and if you want to be monogrammed out son, that can also be done before you even leave the shop.

Josh Peskowitz of Esquire had the opportunity to go check out the renovated space and a look at some of RRL pieces you won’t find outside The Mansion. Hit the jump for a look inside the shop and head over to Esquire to get a full read on the space. (more…)

Now Open | Hostem on London’s Redchurch Street

Now Open | Hostem on London's Redchurch Street

London’s Shoreditch district recently welcomed a new retail shop for men to their blocks. Hostem is quite different from London’s other offerings in this spectrum as it looks to bring together an eclectic mix of brands and styles to really deliver something the city’s seldom seen as of late.

The interior is broken down into essentially three rooms, each bringing along its own shopping experience. The first room springs up neutral chalky tones with concrete plinths to display footwear and also house the Hostem essentials. You’ll find cool digs from the likes of The Elder Statesman and Damir Doma in this area. the second room is a more intimate space, with low swooping ceilings and carefully upholstered walls. Ann Demeulemeester and Rick Owens are placed alongside MA+ and Julius as well as plenty others. The third space is a concept unique to the store as it serves up as an area in which visiting designers will be invited to take up residence on a short-term basis.

Other standout labels to be offered at Hostem include Visvim, Creep, Mastermind Japan, 3.1 Phillip Lim, as well as Odyn Voyk and Stussy.

Now Open | Boston Gets J.Crew Men's Shop

Well it’s not open yet, but J.Crew has announced that it’s finally expanding its Men’s Shop locations outside of New York City and opening doors to a new space in Copley Square in Boston, MA. We’re not sure what’s more epic here, the fact J.Crew is opening a shop outside the island or that Boston is about to get a retail shop for men worth mentioning.

Whatever the case may be, look for the doors at 100 Huntington Avenue, Copley Place to open next Tuesday, September 28th. (via Selectism)

Being the creative mastermind that he is, instead of pulling out an SLR, the man teamed up with Sean Sullivan to put together a video tour. Check it out after the jump.  (more…)

Inside the Shop | Self Edge Los Angeles

Ryan at Inventory gives us a look inside Self Edge’s new Los Angeles store. “They sell a very focused selection of high quality garments to an educated consumer. Kiya is a smart business man, a funny guy and a passionate retailer.” The new shop will surely reaffirm these notions and help the brand to continue its growth process. The layout is clean and welcoming and will surely gain traction with its North La Brea Avenue location.
