Samsung Galaxy S4

Samsung Galaxy S4

Samsung has unveiled the latest addition to their Galaxy line of smartphones. Design cues come from its predecessor, the GS3, but with the screen size bumped up to 5-inches. Expect to see the same rounded edges and narrow physical home button button in a slightly thinner and lighter body. Other enhancements include the screen resolution being maxed out at 1080p, an increase in battery life, a faster 1.9 GHz quad-core or 1.6GHz octa-core processor and the rear-facing camera now with 13-megapixels.

These enhancements were all expected from current and hopeful Samsung users but Samsung’s focus on creating specialized software is where things really get interesting, allowing the global tech manufacturer to really differentiate itself from the competition. One standout feature is the dual video call mode which allows callers to see what you’re looking at during video calls. The TV control app, translation tool, and eye-tracking and gesture capabilities alow you to pause a video when you look away and let you hover a finger over an item to get a preview.

Look for the Samsung Galaxy S4 to hit stores late April in both a white and black variation.

Samsung’s TL220 and TL225 Cameras Have Front-Mounted LCD screen [Self-Portraits]

Samsung's TL220 and TL225 with Front-Mounted Cameras

This goes under the so-damn-obvious-why-didn’t-we-think-of-it category. How many times has your girl grabbed you for a quick self-portrait at dinner or your romantic walk on the beach only to come up with a shot with your hair cut off? Samsung’s been in that situation as well. That explains why they’ve decided to fit the TL220 and TL225 with front-mounted LCD screens.

Now, for your little nieces and nephews, it can play “cute animations to capture kids’ attention.” Brilliant! Both 12.2 megapixel cameras sport a 4.6x optical zoom, image stabilization, 720p video capabilities in H.264 format, and a touchscreen rear LCD with haptic feedback. The TL220 has a 3-inch display in the back, while the TL225 (pictured) features a 3.5-inch display that’s also much, much sharper. Price is $299.90 / $349.99 for TL220 and TL225, respectively, and both are due out in September.

Womp Womp: Samsung’s Armani 2 Night Effect cellphone

When we think Armani, we think style engineered at its highest peaks.  Armani clothing entire product line from jeans to colognes have been timeless and have embodied what Armani stood for.  Unfortunately, their second attempt at breaking into the cell phone market is a flop.

Samsung’s Armani 2 Night Effect (what a effin’ name) celli looks like an upgraded Motorola SLVR.  That’s the best you could do, guys?  Have you seen what type of phones have been releasing this year?  Did they think that the blue-LED glowing strip that’s wrapped around the edges was going to be the enticer?

Check the specs:

• Quadband GSM, HSDPA connectivity
• 2.2-inch reinforced glass AMOLED display
• 3.2 megapixel camera, without flash
• Built-in FM Radio
• Dedicated music player control buttons
• 120 MB of User Memory
• microSD memory card slot
• USB 2.0 and Bluetooth 2.0

It’s due in Europe in November with Asian and Middle East releases shortly after, but there’s no word on pricing or a North American version or release timings.  Just know that it’s probably not going to be worth the heavy price tag that’ll they’ll tack on because of the Armani badge.

Released: Samsung’s “Rugby” a-837 for AT&T at $129.99

Last week, we reported that the Samsung Rugby was going to release today, and our sources were correct!  The phone’s available via ATT.com in an all black finish.  The price?  $129.99 with a two-year contract and a mail-in rebate.  Unfortunately, the tool box we unboxed the phone in will not be available.  Here’s what Samsung and AT&T have to say:

The Samsung Rugby(TM) is AT&T’s first rugged Mil-Spec device and it is the only rugged wireless phone that combines the convenience of Push to Talk (PTT) with Video Share Calling. It is ideal for businesses that employ on-site field services that need instant voice access. It is built tough to withstand harsh conditions of all on-site jobs. Certified to Military Standard MI-SID-810F, it will withstand dust, shock vibrations, rain, humidity, solar radiation and altitude and temperature extremes.

Check out our previous gallery and information we leaked last week about the phone.

Por Homme Exclusive: Samsung set to release SGH-a837 “Rugby” on Sept. 15th, priced at $129

Sources close to AT&T are telling us that the Samsung Rugby that we unboxed last week is set to release on Monday, September 15th.  No word if the phone will come in the heavy-duty toolbox we showed off, but for the price, it’s still a pretty good deal.  MSRP is somewhere in the $300-$400 range, but with a two-year contract, you can pick one up for $129.  Nope, that’s the right price.

If you’re already a business customer, then you should contact your account rep for an even better deal.  These numbers have not yet been confirmed, but we like to think our sources are pretty good.

If you missed the unboxing ceremonies, then check that out HERE.  Is this phone up your alley?  Let us know!

Por Homme exclusive: SGH-a837 “Rugby” by Samsung unboxed

In a few weeks, Samsung will be releasing the SGH-a837, dubbed the “Rugby,” a phone that brings together advanced technology and toughness, ideal for those rugged work environments that require both.  We’ve got our hands on one (don’t ask how, just say thank you), and we’re going to spill the beans.

The phone’s got a durable exterior that’s damage resistant, and has Push To Talk Technology and a large speaker.  Don’t think that’s good enough?  Well, the Rugby’s also certified to Military Standard MIL-STD-810F for dust, shock, vibration, rain, humidity, solar radiation, altitude and temperature extremes.

On the inside, AT&T and Samsung have worked together to make sure the Rugby has the capabilities to keep its users from missing a beat.  Its got 3G, AT&T Navigator, Mobile Email, and MEdia Net.  They’ve also made sure that there shouldn’t be any barrier between a personal phone and a work phone.  The Rugby comes with Video Share, Cellular Video, AT&T mobile Music, a 1.3 megapixel Camera, Text messaging, as well as Instant Messaging.

The gallery’s below so be sure to check out the close-ups.  This phone came in a special Samsung toolbox, especially for AT&T B2B employees, so don’t think that this will be the packaging for consumers when the phone hits the market.
