The rumors were swirling around for the last week or so but now it’s official: Yahoo has bought tumblr for $1.1 Billion in hard cold cash. Marissa Mayer and team were not playing around, folks. They just turned things up and made David Karp one wealthy 26 year old in the process. Here’s what Yahoo had to say in a press release:

Per the agreement and our promise not to screw it up, Tumblr will be independently operated as a separate business. David Karp will remain CEO. The product, service and brand will continue to be defined and developed separately with the same Tumblr irreverence, wit, and commitment to empower creators.

Yahoo’s CEO Marissa Mayer took to Yahoo’s tumblr page to make the announcement and appropriately so. She even tossed in a gif for good measures. The numbers for Tumblr are impressive — 300 million monthly unique visitors and 120,000 signups every single day with a blog post pool of over 50 billion.

Today’s a busy day in tech with the WWDC going down as we type and with that came the keynote given by Steve Jobs this morning. The Apple CEO made some major announcements and none more anticipated than the unveiling of the iCloud service that’s set to compete with similar services offered up by Amazon and Google. iCloud stores your content and wirelessly pushes it to all your devices. Steve Jobs and Co. at Apple have done it again, delivering looks at iOS 5 in all its glory and wowing a massive audience in the process. This year’s WWDC kicked off with a bang, no doubt, with iOS 5 and the Lion OS for Mac leading the charge. There are over 200 new features built into the new iOS for the iPhone and iPad and here’s a breakdown of the top ten.

Microsoft has released information about their upcoming holiday lineup.  On the list was this beauty:  The Arc Mouse.  It’s a collapsible mouse that is portable when it needs to be and comfortable like a full-sized mouse when it needs to be as well.  It’s MSRP’d at $59.95, which is par with current wireless mice on the market, so it’s a pretty good deal.
