Michael Williams of A Continuous Lean recently took a trip over to London for a tour of the MR PORTER Headquarters in Shepherd’s Bush. It’s a massive space, one that houses the site’s entire editorial staff, retail departments and a handful of design studios to keep things running smoothly at all times. The meeting spaces scattered throughout the building are well thought out and are extremely inviting. The fact that such a magnificent space is housed atop a mall in London reminds us that large office spaces are extremely limited in London. Not many areas can keep up with MR PORTER’s growth so this spot is perfect for them now and as they continue to build. Read more over at ACL with some of our favorite shots below.
Michael over at A Continuous Lean has started a new segment titled “The ACL Made in Italy Tour” and the first piece covers the Gucci loafer, one of the most iconic shoes known to man. MW goes to the outskirts of Florence to the factory where it all takes place, giving us a look into the loafer-making process. The inside is opposite of what you’d expect and Michael puts it best — “It is the perfect marriage of technology and traditional craft with a seasoned group of shoemakers, sewers and cutters all under one roof.” The tools are old school but the space is so well-organized and the process, well, it’s as efficient as can be for a shoe so timeless.

Christabel Jay is in his final year at the University of Lincoln studying Contremporary Lens Media. I came across his Flickr page a short while back and really think she did a phenomenal job capturing the Grenson Shoe Factory in the UK. The shots cover the some of the skilled workers behind those handmade beauties and give us a visual of the atmosphere in which they perform.
