The Simpsons: Mypods and Boomsticks takes shots at Apple and Jobs

The other night, we were watching newest episode of The Simpsons and boy did we enjoy it. During a trip to the mall, Lisa enters the Mapple Store and receives a myPod from Krusty. After Bart interrupts an important message from Mapple founder Steve Mobbs, angry Mapple customers chase him out of the Springfield Mall. There are few Apple-related parodies that really amused us.

We’re not going to give anything else away so check out the episode at Hulu.

What we love: The Sopranos Complete Series 33 DVD set

Christmas is coming and guys need to start compiling their Christmas List.  Let us help you.  The Sopranos, our favorite show of all time is now available in a 33-DVD complete set.

For six seasons, fans have devotedly watched Tony Soprano deal with the difficulties of balancing his home life with the criminal organization he leads. Audiences everywhere tuned in to see the mob, the food, the family, and who was next to be whacked. Celebrate the show that Vanity Fair called, “the greatest show in TV history”, in the ultimate Sopranos collector’s edition.

If this were available on Blu-ray, then we’d be jumping for joy.

What to watch: The WSOP “November Nine” Final Table on Nov. 9

October’s winding down and so is the MLB World Series.  That means we need to turn our heads to the World Series of Poker on ESPN.  On November 9th, The Final Table will star the “November Nine” as they reach for their piece of the $32 million up for grabs.

First they will play down until 2 remain.  Then, when’s head-to-head, they’ll go at it on November 10th.  The battle will air the following night on ESPN.

So who’s going to win the WSOP and get their hands on a bracelet?  Only time will tell, my friends so tune in and watch.  We definitely will.

Sony shows off concept flexible TV screen: Foldable computers next?

Sony, along with Max Planck Institute of Germany have unveiled a flexible television screen that could spawn a new different world of consumer electronics.  Imagine being able to fold a computer and putting it in your pocket.  You got a 52-inch HD but not enough room in your living room for a Super Bowl party?  How about you fold it and take it to your friend’s place.

The design they unveiled could b used for anything from TVs and computers to posters.  The concept demo was unveiled by researchers from Sony and the Max Planck Institute in Germany who believe “Rigid television screens, bulky laptops and still image posters are to be a thing of the past”.

Billboards and marketing schemes on cereal boxes could be drastically enhanced as well, providing us with talking boxes or moving objects on billboards, as if we’re watching Minority Report.

The screen is flexible and transparent and its energy requirements are much lower than what we’re used to.  You don’t even need a backlight, response times can be up to 10 times faster than LCDs.

This is just a concept right now, but it’s a vast improvement from the garbage Sony unveiled back in 2006.  That model didn’t go into product because of the endless list of flaws, but this version might actually end up on store shelves before we even know it.

Thanks Telegraph!

What to watch: AMC’s “Mad Men” for style as much as for the story line

We’ve been watching Mad Men on AMC since it first came out, heck we’ve got a copy of the first season on Blu-ray. It had us stuck to the screen from the first episode, but don’t take our word it.  It took two of the most sought-after prizes at the Emmy Awards the other night, and they did it with a viewing audience of about 2 million people per episode. The ratings are low now, but they were low for the Sopranos as well when that first came out.

We enjoy watching Mad Men, but it’s not just because of the story line. It’s not because Don Draper’s the man when it comes to his job, women, and family.  It’s because of what he wear. The show’s costume designer gets more recognition from us than the writers in our opinion.  It’s not easy recreating the 60s episode after episode with timeless detail.

Life on Madison Avenue comes to life through the drama on AMC, and the style percieved through the show has influenced many designers, and even our own personal wardrobes.  We’ve got a few shots of Don Draper and company in their finest attire below, so be sure to take notes.

The show’s in its second season now on AMC, so head to AMCtv.com for more info.

Cavalcade of Comedy by Seth MacFarlane, creator of Family Guy

Seth MacFarlane has launched a new website called sethcomedy.com.  It focuses on comedy shorts and is part of Google’s Content Network.  The offerings called, “Seth MacFarlane’s Cavalcade of Cartoon Comedy,” are ad-supported by Google’s AdSense network.

The coming weeks will bring more content, but as of right now, there are two videos and a few teasers for the site.  The plans were announced in July, as well as the Google deal.  A total of 50 mini-episodes would be distributed across an array of sites that MacFarlane’s audience visits.

The episodes are short, ranging from under a minute to no more than two, and so far, they only consist of a preroll sponsorship-type ad (which is animated in McFarlane’s style, so it’s not very jarring at all) before the actual video.

Head over to sethcomedy.com and check out the current content that’s currently being sponsored by Burger King.
