Google Ingress

Google Ingress

Google’s Niantic Labs has dropped a new multi-player gaming platform for mobile users, dubbed Ingress. Your real-world location is turned into a virtual world, by way of virtual layering after your location’s been determined. Users fight for territory against opposing factions while the game is sure to take Augmented Reality to new heights. Complex capturing systems allow players to capture nearby building and areas located by using your GPS. Players can work together to capture a bundle of close-by areas to expand their faction territory, or fight to gain other factions’ territories.

Currently an invite-only beta application, you can gain access to Ingress by applying here.

Madden NFL Arcade for PS3 and XBox 360

Madden NFL Arcade for PS3 and XBox 360

So you’re not a hardcore gamer but would love to play a football game that doesn’t require a degree in statistics (note: I don’t have a degree in statistics but kick ass in Madden)? Well, get ready for Madden NFL Arcade which is set to hit the PlayStation Store and XBox Live sometime in December. It’s quite similar to where-are-they-now Blitz and Street franchises of years past, but offers that Madden-esque feel that we’ve all come to love (even when we shouldn’t). It’s strictly five-on-five football with players given the choice to select long-, medium-, or short-pass plays or runs and basic defensive packages, then going head-to-head in a game that’s more like street basketball than a pro one.

Madden NFL Arcade will be a download-only game that’s due to release sometime in December. Crave had the opportunity go hands-on so we suggest checking the read here for full details. Screenshots after the jump.  (more…)

Rockstar Games Bringing 90s, Grand Theft Auto to iPhone [GTA]

GTA, 90s coming to iPhone

Not much to say about this yet but Rockstar’s let the world know they’re bringing GTA to our beloved iPhones. Don’t think it’s going to be anything like Grand Theft Auto IV because they’ve also let us know the iPhone-version’s going to be a top-down affair, much like the original GTAs from the 90s. They say sequels are never as good as the original and we might see if this holds true when the Grand Theft Auto hits the App Store this fall. No screenshots yet, but worry not, we’re on the lookout for those as wells.

Sony’s Smaller and Lighter PS3 Unveiled, Priced at $300 for September Release

 Unveiled: Sony PS3 Slim

With all the rumors and speculations piling up, Sony’s finally taken the veil off their slim PS3. It weighs less than the original and takes up 32 percent less space. It’s also an energy saver, as it consumes 34 percent less power. The first week of September’s looking great, as North America, Europe and Japan will all be getting the opportunity to grab one. It’ll retail for $300 (or 300 Euro, or 29,980 Yen) with a 120 HDD and all the same features as the original.

If you do happen to have the original PS3, then expect your eBay value to drop as MSRPs on all original SKUs as prices are being cut by $100 on each model. Engadget explains, “The new 3.0 firmware will be released concurrently with the PS3 slim, which should provide a breath of fresh air for existing machines. Other new features of the PS3 slim include BRAVIA Sync, which allows you to control the PS3 XMB over HDMI through your BRAVIA TV remote, and System Standby to shut off the PS3 when the BRAVIA TV is off. Sony also claims this new machine will run more quietly than existing PS3 systems.”
