Hublot Bal Harbour Boutique Opening with Dwayne Wade

Hublot Bal Harbour Boutique Opening with Dwayne Wade

Earlier this week, Hublot held an event at Miami’s Club 50 at the Viceroy Hotel, celebrating the official opening of the Hublot Bal Harbour Boutique opening. Dwayne Wade was on hand, sporting is own creation — the Hublot King Power “D-Wade”. Dwyane made his mark as a designer in creating his very own limited edition watch in collaboration with Hublot. “The elements reflect my personal style and love for basketball”, he said of the watch which features his jersey’s #3 and a bball net design on the strap.

Wade enjoyed the soiree with girlfriend Gabrielle Union and Hublot Managing Director Ricardo Guadalupe while guests danced to tunes spun by DJ Khaled. Proceeds from the Hublot King Power Dwyane Wade watch will go to support the Wade World Foundation in its efforts to promote education, health and social skills for children in at-risk situations.

Hodinkee x Club Monaco | Vintage Watches Made in the USA

Hodinkee x Club Monaco | Vintage Watches Made in the USA

There’s something special about the work that Ben Clymer of Hodinkee does. He connects readers with products that they normally wouldn’t be able to see and talks about complicated timepieces in a way that folks can relate to and the unique content he dishes out on the daily is by far some of the best watch coverage on the digital web. He’s been steadily growing his following and this is one of his many “stamps of approval” in the past few months. He’s been doing some close work with TAG Heuer and Audemars Piguet and has ongoing collaborative efforts with the teams over at Gilt. Now, Club Monaco commissioned Ben to find some vintages military-style watches that were made right here in the US of A as part of their Made in the USA collection in conjunction with Michael Williams of A Continuous Lean. Of course, he delivered and now the goods are being sold at the Club’s New York flagship at 21st and 5th and Toronto’s Bloor Street location. There are less than ten pieces in total and we’re not sure which ones are even left but we suggest getting in to one of these shops if they’re local and check out the beauties for yourself.

Volvo Ocean Race | IWC Portuguese Yacht Club Chronograph Edition

Volvo Ocean Race | IWC Portuguese Yacht Club Chronograph Edition

IWC Schaffhausen, the official sponsor of the Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing team, has released the Portuguese Yacht Club Chronograph Edition “Volvo Ocean Race 2011-2012″ to coincide with the official start of this “Everest’ of sailing. For those not familiar, the Volvo Ocean Race takes the world’s most dedicated and skilled sailors around the world in nine race legs, testing them at every moment. It gets under way with the In-Port Race at the Spanish port of Alicante and takes in six continents and four oceans before the crews hit the final stretch in the summer of 2012 in Galway, Ireland. The voyage tacks 39,270 nautical miles (72,728 km), putting the crews in some tough tides, ice-cold storms, 15-metre-high waves and much more.

This special edition Portuguese honors this unparalleled race and the crews’ outstanding achievements. It’s made from titanium and is functional, highly reliable and elegant as well. IWC delivers a beauty that’s water-resistant to 6 bar and fatures a screw-in crown with crown protection, giving it a rugged edge that can withstand just about anything. The IWC-manufactured 89361-calibre movement is on the inside and is fitted with a fly back function as well as an analogue display with two hands in a sub dial for long stop times. For a challenge as demanding as the Volvo Ocean Race, the black rubber strap with folding clasp closure is perfect and the sapphire-glass back adds to the aesthetics of this timeless watch. The engraving “Edition Volvo Ocean Race 2011-2012″ can be seen on the back of this well-designed and impeccably crafted chronograph.

Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Golf

Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Golf

As the official timekeeper of the PGA, Omega has a special place in the sport, even though other major players like Richard Mille and Audemars have attempted to gain some light in the space by declaring ambassadors and whatnot. Hodinkee tells us Omega’s still doing their part with the release of the Seamaster Aqua Terra Golf, which takes the original 41mm Aqua Terra and gives the minute track a “golf green” makeover. The word “Seamaster” is in green, as are the tips of the hands but no other enhancements were made beyond that.

Introducing | The MB&F Legacy Machine 1

Introducing | The MB&F Legacy Machine 1

Our friends at Hodinkee have been hinting at MB&F releasing another masterpiece but what we didn’t know is that it would be part of a completely new line of timepieces. The LM1 is the first watch of the Legacy Machine line, one that actually looks more like a traditional watch except, well, it’s not. We say this because MB&F has been known to go above and beyond anything the watch industry expects and they didn’t disappoint.

The LM1′s design takes inspiration from 19th century pocketwatches and some of the earliest wristwatches known to exist. The watch features slowly oscillating balance wheel right on the front of the watch. It operates at 2.5 Hz / 18,000 beats per hour, and gives the wearer a look into the constant motion of any mechanical wristwatch. The movement’s designed by Jean-Francois Mojon, the same man behind IWC’s recently announced Siderale Scafusica. The timepiece has 279 components and a power reserve of 45 hours.

Rolex HTE Series Watches

Rolex’s HTE series of watches adds two more pieces to close out the collection. The 39mm and 42mm celebrate the achievements of the children of Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay, two famed explorers known to be the first to reach the summit of Mt. Everest back in 1953. The 39mm congratulates Sir Edmund and his son Peter as the first father and son duo to reach the summit while the 42mm sheds light on Peter and Jamling Tenzing Norgay summiting Everest. Select HTE buyers will also get a once in a lifetime opportunity to join Peter Hillary and Jamling Tenzing Norgay on their expedition to Everest Basecamp in May 2012. Big shoes to fill but we’re hoping they succeed in moving their fathers’ legacies forward.

The IWC Portuguese Sidérale Scafusia

The IWC Portuguese Sidérale Scafusia

The fine folks over at Hodinkee have really outdone themselves with this one.
