Spring Essential | Outlier Supermarine Rainshirt

Spring Essential | Outlier Supermarine Rainshirt

Complex turns us to the Supermarine Rainshirt from Outlier, a piece I wish I was wearing yesterday when it began to downpour. It’s made from long Egyptian cotton fibers and woven in a tight pattern that will keep you dry for hours. Outlier gives us a heads up on the how to care for this unique shirt.

The mill recommends you “sponge clean only,” although we’ve been known to dry clean ours. Either way it never irons perfectly flat so be ready to wear it for what it is.

Mackintosh Duncan Fawn Overcoat

Mackintosh Duncan Fawn Overcoat

There is much to love about a Mackintosh coat and while the company’s longstanding reputation is never in question, it never hurts to state why their coats are so special. For one, they’re handmade in Scotland with 100% bonded cotton cloth. All of the seams are hand taped and the fabric is completely waterproof. Don’t expect any April showers to get through this layer of protection. This Duncan is a 3/4 length and comes in a navy blue finish as well.

MA.Strum Cross-Dyed Torch Field Jacket

MA.Strum Cross-Dyed Torch Field Jacket

Inspired by the archive of legendary Italian designer Massimo Osti, Ma.Strum launched last season with a great lineup that took Osti’s classic creativity and blended it with modern high-tech fabrics and design. For Spring/Summer 2010, the label continues to use Massimo’s archives as a foundation, while taking a more naval direction. The result is an array of products including, but not limited to, swimwear, cargo pants (yes unfortunately they’re back), and three military carbon-coated bags. This field jacket happens to be one of our favorites actually, as it’s a returning style fitted with a new shell.

The jacket is made from cross dyed Polyester, this is waterproof and windproof but also gives a two-tone colour effect depending on the angle viewed. The jacket also includes a solar powered torch, and as with the CP Company Urban Protection design that inspired this jacket, the torch is attached at the chest so it can be easily accessed.

Borsalino Rain-Proof Hats [Made in Italy]

Borsalino Rain-Proof Hats [Made in Italy]

In May of 2008, the West Village became home to shoe shop Leffot, in what has proven to be one happy marriage. Since then, they’ve come to offer a fine selection of men’s footwear, from labels we know and love, like Alden and Wolverine. They also offer acessories as well as a limited range of women’s footwear. Italy’s Borsalino is known for crafting some of the world’s finest hats, and although some may cost as much as some of the footwear, we think they’re well worth the investment. The fur felt varieties Leffot recently got in stock are water repellent, meaning you can go “Singin’ in the Rain” without many worries.

The hats are available in taupe or black. Head over to 10 Christopher Street or email info@leffot.com with any inquiries you may have.
