Wolverine 1000 Mile is pairing up with NYC retailer Leffot to auction off the #1 pair of their limited edition Wolverine 721 LTD Boots to benefit GlobalGiving’s project helping orphans in Japan rebuild their lives post-tsunami. This is an exceptional cause and really reminds us that though it’s been sometime since the tsunami, people still need our support.

The limited edition 721 LTD boot is based on a Wolverine archival pattern and is made from Horween Leather Company’s shell cordovan leather. Only 1,000 hand-numbered pairs were released worldwide along with certificates of authenticity. Bids for the #1 pair, a men’s size 10D in Shell Cordovan No. 8 color, will be accepted from today until the 22nd. The bid is currently at $728.

It’s been a short while since we heard from Wolverine last but we’re glad to be getting news of these beauties from their 1000 Mile line for Fall/Winter 2011. They’ve got two new additions to their Gentleman Collection. The Wickham is a brogue oxford that’s making its debut this season and looks exceptional in both black or tan. It features a hand-rubbed leather upper with swirling perforated detail and a subtle contrast color underlay. The Winchester is the taller brogue boot shown above and also comes in black or tan. It features a sheepskin lining while both feature Goodyear Welt construction and a Vibram Heel Lift.

Though we’ll be getting the opportunity to check out the entire Wolverine 1000 Mile collection for Fall 2011 at next week’s Project show in Vegas, here’s a quick look at what to expect. We’ve covered the Addison boot from this season’s collection in the past but look for this rendition next winter. The two-tone finish is epic to say the least and is definitely a pair we’ll be looking to get our hands on when it hits stockists worldwide in the coming months.

Last night, we had the opportunity to stop in at New York’s finest shoe shop, Leffot, and see the Wolverine 1000 Mile 721 LTD boot in the flesh. I also got the chance to speak with some of the folks behind Wolverine and when I say they know what they’re doing, I mean it. They pulled out some inspiration from their archives and delivered a timeless boot in the 721 LTD. The Horween color 8-shell cordovan leather is really something else.

The shaft and tongue are unlined shell, which is great because it’s softer and suppler around the ankle and instep. They’re surprisingly lightweight and flexible and offer great support under your feet. As with all cordovan boots the more you wear them the better they look.

Wolverine is only making 1,000 pairs of these and each are hand numbered and includes Basswood shoetrees and a certificate of authenticity.

Wolverine’s 1000 Mile collection is by far one of our favorite boot lineups out, primarily because of its historical references, outstanding craftsmanship and attention to detail. The range is pretty versatile as well, including the Wesley, a wingtip chukka boot that’s sure to work well in many different settings. The perforated wing tip design is highlighted with a Horween Rowdy Leather upper and is handcrafted to perfection. It’s lined with sheepskin and fitted with a leather and rubber outsole and slapped together with Goodyear Welt construction. Built to last.

A little while back, we had the opportunity to check out the upcoming Fall 2010 collection for Wolverine 1000 Mile. The lineup’s tremendous, as it features plenty of different styles in a handful of Horween finishes. Only a couple more months before these beauties hit our favorite retailers, folks.
