We first were turned to Italian jewelry design label Aoúd last year and we’ve been loyal fans ever since. With such a solid first collection, we’d think it would be quite difficult to beat the second time around but they’ve done it with these pieces designed for the Japanese market. Japan is where all the Western subcultures are experienced in a very deep way, almost fetishist and so there’s much to appreciate there from the second collection of aoúd. The line features pieces made of silver and brass and produced entirely in Italy and brings us back to the atmospheres of the chopper culture.
The sacred symbols of the first collection are strong again and when combined with modern rosary beads and wallet chains, they create the connection to an imaginary scenario of the ’60s.There is where gang of bikers were beautifully described by Hunter S. Thompson in his report of the Hell’s Angels ’67 and by the photographer Bill Ray in an article for the American magazine Life ’65. Each piece holds deep meaning and inspiration and we’re quite impressed by the evolution and versatility aoúd is showing with their latest collection. The collection is sold in select stores internationally including Excelsior in Milan and Strasburgo in Japan.

Hodinkee gives us a look at MB&F’s latest creation — the HM3 Poison Dart Frog. Their infamous HM3 Frog is comes in a black PVD-coated zirconium case against the 18k yellow gold screws and 22k yellow gold rotor. The contrasting details are magnificent but the looks run deeper. It’s designed after an actual poison dart frog, or Dendrobates Leucomela, whose black and yellow camouflage protects him in his natural habitat. Max Büsser and Co. have tweaked this beauty to perfection and with it being the very special piece it was crafted to be, there will only be ten pieces made available. Singapore’s Hour Glass will be the only retailer getting these.
We’ve got a few more shots of the HM3 Poison Dart Frog watch but be sure to head over to Hodinkee for more details.

The folks over at HODINKEE have a first look at Ikepod’s recent collaboration with graffiti artist turned designer KAWS, the result of which is this special Ikepod Horizon. KAWS personally designed the dial and delivers to us this 44mm beauty that’s powered by an ETA 2892 and is made of solid titanium. “What is so intresting about these watches is the seemless integration of the bezel, which you can hardly tell exists separate from the case – just a beautiful integration of form and function, and with KAWS leading the way, you can be sure these are going to go quick.”
Pricing of the Ikepod Horizon by KAWS is set at $14,000 with availability coming through LA-based Westime.

Last week, I had the opportunity to join my good friends from Hodinkee, Gear Patrol, Forbes and a few other publications as well as a small group of Hodinkee loyalists for a dinner hosted by ‘dinkee and Stephen Hallock of MB&F. On display were ten horological machines from MB&F and were available to touch, feel and try on. We are now in a very small group of individuals that have been given such an opportunity to see these rare pieces in person, let alone ten of them at once. Much thanks to Ben Clymer at Hodinkee and the fine folks at MB&F for making this happen, it was truly an honor.
Mr. Yang of Gear Patrol went to work with his Fuji X100 and took some amazing shots, some of which we’ve highlighted below for your viewing. Enjoy!

Though we’ve always felt a man’s wrist should be reserved only for a watch, here are a few wrist pieces from the folks at Profound Aesthetic that we’d actually consider wearing. This doesn’t happen often. These beaded bracelets are hand made with the utmost care and feature natural stone accents alongside the wooden beads. They have this distressed look to them that really standouts. The piece comes in four finishes — black, natural, red and brown. For the summer, these can be a perfect substitute for your watch when you’re lounging or walking in the sand.
Look for the entire ‘Wood Collection’ to hit Profound Aesthetic‘s webstore in the coming days.
